Ten facts you need to know about Risen - copy protection, bugs and so on...

We already know a lot about Risen. PC Games, however, has highlighted nine more new aspects of the game.

10 Facts About Risen: Factions, Magic and Combat System

10 facts about Risen: Plot, character and bugs

10 facts about Risen: copy protection, claims, wild pigs, collector's edition.

1. Three factions.

Almost at the very beginning of the game you will have to join one of three factions. Will you choose a career as a bandit, join the Inquisition, or become a magician? The choice of faction will entail tangible consequences: if you choose the Inquisition, you will reach the level of a master in battle with staves, but you will only be able to use magic in the form of scrolls. The so-called warriors of the Order do not have access to all the spells that are available in the world of Risen, but the Piranhas describe such a warrior as a good mixed class between a fighter and a magician. If, on the contrary, you want to support their enemies, then you will need to join a group of bandits, or, in other words, rebels who most often grab a shield and sword. As a mage, you will learn any possible spell, but in this case you will have to avoid melee combat. Scrolls used by warriors of the Order or bandits will not be useful to you in this case.

2. Magic.

In the Gothic series, the developers made the magic system in such a way that as you progressed, you found more and more powerful scrolls, which you subsequently used. In Risen, the ability to increase magic depends on the level of development of your combat and other skills. For example, you learn three attack spells, which you improve as you gain experience. In this case, the fireball will be larger, will cause major damage, or the time interval between shots will be reduced. The same goes for the ice spell, which freezes your enemies.

But there will also be spells that, despite sufficient experience, you will not be able to improve. This is, for example, a transformation spell. In addition to the fact that you will use magic to attack - to turn your enemy into a harmless small animal. You yourself will have the opportunity to transform into another creature. Let's give an example: you have reached a dead end in the dungeons, the only thing available to you is a small hole in the wall, perhaps this is the further path. Using the spell, you turn into a small creature for a short period of time, crawl through the gap and move on.

3. Combat system.

Risen also uses timing and combos. The left mouse button is responsible for attacking, with the right one you can repel attacks. But if you want to strengthen your attack, you will need to press the left mouse button again at a certain point. Moreover, the duration with which you hold the button pressed also plays a role, namely, it determines the force of the blow. The W, A, S and D buttons on the keyboard help you perform different types of shots. The more similar attacks you perform, one after another, the more powerful your overall attack against the enemy will be, because Risen collects all the combos together. As experience increases, the frequency of successful attacks becomes more frequent.
In practice, it looks like this: The hero has a staff in his hands. You hit once, the hero directs his blow towards the enemy. If, on the contrary, you immediately carry out a multiple attack, the hero will strike his opponent with force from different sides, in the end he, quickly rotating the stick, will bring down the final blow on his already defenseless opponent.

4. Plot.

Your adventure will begin the moment the nameless hero wakes up on a deserted beach, washed ashore and completely exhausted.
The hero has no idea, typical of Piranhas, where he is and how he got here. The story becomes clearer after some time: the island that the hero is forced to explore was a quiet place for a long time, until an extinct volcano began to spew lava again. Since the awakening of the volcano, mystical temples began to appear from the ground, which also released disgusting creatures. To find out the reason, the Inquisition developed a plan that was supposed to ensure order and calm again. But instead of helping the frightened residents, they are herded into the only city on the island - of course, for their own protection. Anyone who resists will receive a free ticket to exile, to a camp, to excavations in dark temples. It is not surprising that the people are waiting to be rescued, and some residents even prefer to live in exile.

5. Character development.

As usual, the character development system made by Piranha is not simple, unlike other representatives of the genre. Instead of simply distributing development points into certain branches of abilities, you will have to look for a person who can teach you this or that ability. It costs time and money, but at the same time we make the world more realistic. The character development screen itself is quite simple and functional. Roughly speaking, it can be divided into four subcategories:

Main: Life energy and mana increase automatically when moving to a higher level. Strength, skill and wisdom, you will have to increase - like other abilities - from teachers. To do this you will need training points and money.

Talents: The abilities your character can learn are categorized by Risen. Some abilities, such as staff fighting, can only be trained to the highest level of mastery if you join the corresponding faction.

Inventory: Here you are shown all the sorted items that you have in your “backpack”. You can drag them to the quick access menu with the mouse.

Armor: Depending on what armor or shield you are carrying, your armor on screen will change.

6. Bugs in Risen.

PC Games had the opportunity to spend approximately 40 hours in the world of Risen. So far we have noticed only minor details that should be corrected by the second of October. We think that Risen will hit the market with virtually no bugs. Of course, it will be possible to talk about the absolute absence of problems only after the final test has passed. But, in our opinion, Risen will not repeat the fate of Gothic 3 and its add-on.

7. Basic system requirements.

Minimum:
-Windows XP
- CPU with 2.0 GHz
- Video card with DirectX 9.1, Pixel Shader 3.0, 256 MB (GeForce 7900 or ATI 1800)
- 1 GB memory

Recommended:
- Windows XP or Vista
-Dual Core CPU with 3.0 GHz
- DirectX 9.1. Video card with Pixel Shader 3.0, 512 MB (GeForce 8800 or ATI Radeon HD 2900)
- 2 GB memory

8. Copy protection.

It is not yet known exactly what copy protection system Rizen will use. The developers and publisher say that it was decided to abandon Starforce and SecuRom completely. Most likely, Tagès will be used, but without the use of DRM. For Tages it is possible to use a DRM module, but Piranhas decided to abandon it. It is possible that the game will require the disc to be present in the drive while playing.

9. Boars.

Yes, there will be wild pigs in Risen too. But they are not as strong as they were during the release of Gothic 3. Veterans remember: they were considered the most dangerous beasts of Myrtana...

10. Collector's Edition

Along with the standard version, a collector's version will also be released on October 2.
It contains:
Map of Farang Island from the hands of the royal cartographer!
Epic game soundtrack created by Kai Rosenkrantz;
Making-of-DVD “Risen” + interview with Piranha Bytes;
Original poster (A1 format) with autographs of the developers themselves;
Access key to beta testing of the next game (after Rizen) from Piranha Bytes;
Artbook (booklet) with a detailed description of how the main character, as well as other characters, were created;
Stickers with the shape (and image) of a gnome and a ghoul;
And it will cost 54.45 euros.

Having released the third part of Risen, the authors from Piranha Bytes tried to return to a time when the grass was greener, the sky was brighter, and in general, everything was slightly different. However, when returning to the past, we must not forget about the present. This became the main problem of the game.

Yes, yes, you heard right. The game has problems and quite a lot of them. The first thing I would like to note is the complete lack of depth and motivation in everything that is happening.
As in Gothic, the player is offered to join one of three key factions. These factions became Demon Hunters(analogue of dragon hunters from Gothic 2), Guardians(essentially paladins from the same second Gothic or warriors of the Inquisition from Risen 1) and Voodoo Pirates... which (lo and behold) are a hybrid of the Risen 2 main class and the Natives.

This is where the first pitfalls appear. All factions are presented as something opposite, have distinctive features and, it would seem, are even at enmity with each other. In fact, the only thing awaiting the player is a difference in the appearance of the main character’s head.

Hunters are shaved bald, their faces turn pale, and the outlines of veins appear. The guards have an eyepiece firmly glued to them, just like Inquisitor Mendoza from Risen 1, and the Voodoo Pirate is covered in tattoos. This is where all the differences end.

Each class has its own set of magic (largely identical) and certain armor, which is not particularly needed in the game. Sure, Demon Hunters get the teleport ability, which replaces the roll, but it doesn't really change anything. The whole difference in magic comes down to the fact that some use runes, others use voodoo dolls, and others use something else. In fact, all factions have summons, knockback, and healing. And by stocking up on scrolls, the difference can be reduced to zero.

Along with the faction, the ship on which the player will sail also changes. Well, how it changes... the lights are a different color, and the nose is slightly changed.

However, the main problem is not the similarity of the factions, but the almost complete absence of their history. Who are these Demon Hunters? Where were they for ten years while the Titans destroyed the world? The answers are given only superficially and you can’t even expect any depth.

Rare books revealing the history of certain locations do not help matters much. We have beautiful landscapes: islands, pieces of the mainland. But this is nothing more than scenery, as if created by a novice science fiction writer who has not yet been able to realize the importance of details and features of depth.

Actually, the same can be said about the entire plot of Risen 3, about its quests, its characters. Even the Titans have disappeared somewhere, giving way to less frightening Shadows, reminiscent of a pestilence from any fantasy universe. The reason for changing the Main Character is again devoid of motivation. What prevented you from taking a character from the first parts and weakening him in the same way at the beginning? Then the meeting with Patty would have been much more romantic and tragic. Imagine: you are sailing to your beloved, and she is tumbling with pirates... There will be no such effect with your brother. And Patty herself gives the impression of a port whore, dressed as if for an elite client with a fetish for pirates.

The story itself is full of logical holes and looks (and is) a typical salvation of the world from yet another evil, a person who does not care about this world ( by the way, quote from the release trailer). The Main Character is dragged around the world like a messenger and forced to carry out small assignments, dangling in front of his nose the opportunity to return a lost soul. It's amazing how many unnecessary and unrelated things the hero manages to go through.

And the quests themselves are full of references to the Gothic series, to the previous parts of Risen. The authors went so far as to not bother to change the models of some NPCs, simply transferring them from Risen 2 to the third part. Heaps of tasks brazenly quote Gothic, trying to produce a nostalgic fan's tear. But in fact, the search for Goblin thieves and receiving reports from the mines indicates the creative impotence of the writers, who crammed in everything they could just to attract old players.

It partially worked out. And the Gothic atmosphere is especially felt on Calador and Taranis, but as soon as we go to the tropics, we find ourselves in outright clownery. By the third part, the already cartoonish pirates began to resemble a third-grade amateur group at a provincial school. All these " Arrr», « Thousand devils!“Against the backdrop of serious Hunters and Guardians, they look like a mockery. What can we say about the excessive brightness of the jungle and the abundance of details that really hurt the eyes. They were too clever, there is nothing to say.

However, it is worth giving credit to the designers. Perhaps they did the most extensive and high-quality work in the entire Risen series. The game world is interesting to explore, some locations are mesmerizing, and many effects (like butterflies and seeds circling in the air) make you take screenshots again and again. It's sad that the static picture looks much worse.

Of course, the quests aren't terrible either. The game has a minimum number of tasks: “collect 10 herbs” or “kill 5 boars”. There are very funny and exciting stories, the roots of which extend not only to Gothic but also to other projects of the RPG genre. You just feel a certain overload and after ten hours you feel that you are fed up. I want to turn off the game, rest for a couple of days and return to the world of Risen with a fresh, not tired look.

The same applies to the combat system, as well as everything connected with it. There are a lot of monsters in the game, they are all really different, but quite quickly the main character turns into a killing machine and simply begins to chop up all living things (and at first the battles are a kolobok simulator). This gets tiring quickly, so it also requires constant breaks.

By the way, about monsters. For two dozen hours, I was haunted by the thought: why are there almost all the opponents from Risen 2 in the game, but none from Risen 1? Is it possible that with the departure of Ralph (the designer), the rights to the Grave Moths, Mglors, and traditional Ogres were also lost?

I would like to see the same Vultures, Thunder Lizards, or at least ordinary Wolves! And the Lizard People would be a great addition to the hordes of shadows. Just a couple of models... but no! They only gave us an eyepiece and Mendoza.

What am I saying... From the above it does not follow that the game is bad. Not at all, it is interesting and addictive, and as is customary to write lately, it does not pay attention to the shortcomings while you are in the process. The problem of the game is not its quality, not the terrible filters that illuminate the entire screen in shadow locations. Not even in the crooked animation, which the developers deliberately shove into the frame every cut-scene. The problem is that it should have come out five years ago. Then it was time for Risen 3. If the first Risen had turned out like this, it would have been a masterpiece. The bugs have been fixed, but it's too late.

The best part of this small and uneven series? Perhaps! Masterpiece? Not at all. A typical attempt by a small studio to stay afloat. What an irony - a little more and their raft will sink and the piranhas of the gaming industry will devour the Piranhas. It's a pity.

Risen 3 Titan Lords How to kill a sea monster

Before going out to sea, bonuses will always warn you about a monster attack; there are three of them in the game. The first weakest thing you can deal with is the sight (RMB), shoot at a distance from the monster. The second monster is a little more difficult than the first, in order to defeat it you need to use a volley of onboard guns, the “Q” key on the left, the “E” key, respectively, on the right. The third monster is the most difficult in the game, it is, if you can say, the most difficult boss. You should spin as little as possible, swim forward and 90% of the time it will float up in front of you. Fire a salvo with your onboard guns before the monster tries to dive, it gets out of the water as much as possible; if aimed correctly, it will cause the most serious damage, never give up the fight, even if you have little life left. Stay away from rocks; if you hit rocks in the sea, you will also take damage.

Risen 3 Titan Lords How to kill a Titan
Using a spell that he could only receive from Necroloth, Horace summoned a stone titan. I must defeat him. Pick up the shackles and throw them into the hands or feet of the Titan, into special zones on the Titan when these zones increase, as shown in the video. In order to throw the shackles, aim with the RMB, then throw the LMK. You will need 5 sets of shackles to chain an Ore Titan.

Faction Description: Demon Hunters

Hunters originally appeared in Calador - on the harsh northwestern coast, distinguished by long and strong traditions. In the past, rich iron deposits and the highest level of blacksmiths made it possible to erect a majestic fortress and bring civilization to the peak of its development. Since ancient times, the citadel has served as a symbol of enlightenment, and even now the dilapidated black and gold bastions still give a feeling of security.
