On the night of October 11, 2017, a new revised version of the Dast 2 map was released. At the moment, the map is available only in beta versions of the game. How to install and run the new Dust 2 we will describe in this article.

New Dust 2 has already been released on the main version of the game.

Dust 2 was one of the few cards that has undergone almost no changes since its initial release. The map fully reflects the whole essence of CS, and in this new version of the map we wanted to emphasize its uniqueness.

The main goals of the developers during the development of the new version of the map:

  • Improving understanding of the location of players on the map.
  • A variety of different options for movement.
  • Texture updates in accordance with the standards of modern maps.

Dust II is now available in beta client, we look forward to your feedback.

Below you will find out a few key points of what has changed in the new version of the map.

Point B - Kasbah.

We made the tunnel brighter than it was before, now light penetrates through the broken roof. The crashed car was moved a bit, allowing the player to move more freely. The “window” in the wall has become wider. In addition, some objects were moved outside the boundaries of the game map so that they did not distract from the game.

Point A - HOTEL AURORA.

We took into account the opinions of the players and made point A more free to move and removed objects that could distract or merge with other players (for example, the dark gates were removed).

Many “annoying objects” such as small stones and more were also removed from the map.

MFA.

At “MID”, the lighting near the lower tunnel was changed.

A number of other dark doorways were changed, and we did not remove the doors anywhere.

Although the gameplay on the Dust II map never seems to have changed, real art needs good handling. Point B on the map is now the historical Kasbas (the Arabic name for the citadel), and point A is the bazaar and hotel “Aurora”. The resolution of all textures has been increased four times. Now, the bad news is that there are no more 2 restaurants with pizzerias. Good news: institutions with pizzerias have been replaced by 2 dental offices. Coincidence? Maybe not (a joke from the developers).

New models of players.

The infamous terrorist squad Leet Krew, the main villains of Dust II and formerly known as Durah, received an update to the model to match the updated map. We've improved character models and added high-resolution textures to them to be more recognizable, cohesive, and iconic seasoned veterans of countless Counter-Strike rounds. Terrorists are still obsessed with world domination. You will notice that some of the Leet Krew squad are regulars at the new Salon De Coiffeur?

Dust II will eventually turn into one of the most balanced and iconic CS: \u200b\u200bGO maps.   • Added option in "Game Settings" to set Team ID to "always on", (cl_teamid_overhead_always).
  • Added a binding to "Show Team Equipment", which will show the full "Target ID", including equipment.
  • Func_rotating objects no longer freeze or block the spam server console after 1000 times rotation.

[CARDS]

  • The corner at the entrance to the booth (A) is refined from the lobby, which simplifies peeping at the plenty.
  • Bullets now do more damage when shooting through walls in a booth (A).
  • Removed the three boxes at the top of the blue container near the garage.
  • Reduced C4 explosion radius from 500 to 400 units.
  • Real water was added outside the map (previously there was only a visual imitation).

Cobblestone:

  • The arch is lifted along the length A of the plent, from the CT side.
  • Some bugs and bugs fixed.
  • The railing above the top position near the T-bridge no longer blocks bullets.
  • Various bugs fixed.

Dust 2 was the fourth card in a row, which was taken for processing after the release. Earlier, Train, Nuke and Inferno fell under the knife of the creators of the game. Now the community is only concerned with one question: did the operation go well or did the developers manage to repeat past mistakes?

Through thorns

The need to refine the cards has ripened a few years ago. Continuity of geometry is a good idea, but forcing players to run in the same places for almost two decades in a row is a bust. Train became a breakdown of the pen. The map disappeared from the active set for tournament battles in the summer of 2014, and on December 10 of the same year, a new version was released. Valve decided not to trifle: the developers did not just update the textures, they made changes to some of the map’s chips. For example, on the new Train, there was only one “balcony” left at point A, which immediately after the release was a real hell for protection.

Community discontent was not long in coming, and a flurry of rebukes fell on the heads of Valve representatives. Fortunately, the developers had time before the introduction of the new Train to the tournament set of cards, and it took quite a while to realize - the final version appeared only in April 2015. The long and painful process of remaking made the developers more responsive to changes in the Nuke and Inferno cards. In the case of them, the magicians from Valve could not avoid only lowering the performance on the new cards - this turned out to be the price for the presented beauty.


Number four

The exit of Dust 2 from the tournament set of cards and the beginning of work on it, the community perceived in two ways. Nevertheless, Dust 2 is not just a popular card, for many it is the essence of Counter-Strike. Professional players openly expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that they sent it to the alteration, and not, for example, Cobblestone. On the other hand, work on the map was going on a track already rolled up, which means that nothing terrible should have happened.

Old Dust 2, despite all the love of the community, there was something to criticize for. The zone between the base of defense and point B was most affected. Moving between them, the defense player could simply die from a cross from the base of the attack and thereby put his team at a disadvantage. From time to time, other aspects, for example, the glass "ceiling" or the entire point B, were immediately taken.

One could only guess how exactly Valve will change the map and whether the developers will take into account the criticism of the players.

New classic

The new Dust 2 card is not ready yet, but it is already being offered to everyone as a beta version. Access is accompanied by a message from the developers, in which they talk about what they were guided during the work. The objectives of the changes are formulated very vaguely, but specific examples of changes are shown and comments are given on them.


In the work of developers, there is a clear desire to simplify the map. A simple example - on the “length” the burning machine was replaced with a regular one, accompanied by a comment: “Now, newcomers will not be afraid to get burned.” The same applies to a dozen places on the map. A pallet was leaned against the box on the “mid”, along which you can easily jump up, the “mid” itself was cleaned from visual debris and the pillar was moved, and the “upper tunnels” were flooded with light through the openings on the roof.

All of these changes in the size of doorways, the installation of new posts and the addition of stairs look small, but very important changes that affect balance. In addition to the card itself, the models have also changed. Updated terrorists look neater and more variedly dressed. Interestingly, the defensive player models that the community has already complained about have not yet been updated.


The developers themselves note that visual transformation is only part of the work on the map. They are happy to hear and take advantage of feedback from the community in the further development of Dust 2. However, even now we can say that in the coming weeks they will have to fix dozens of minor bugs and shortcomings that spoil the overall impression of the card.

Positive wave

The beta version of the card was met by a real wave of positive. Captain Natus Vincere Daniil Teslenko noted that everyone in Na`Vi will throw a party on this occasion. Adam Freiberg announced his readiness to play on the new map, and in the official NiP account there was a record about the desire to ride on a parked Dacia.

In this case, the first shot and shots after a short delay will still hit relatively accurately. In addition, the number of rounds in the cartridge decreased from 24 to 18, and the number of spare rounds decreased from 120 to 90. The developers reported about these changes on their blog. Now the new Tec-9 is undergoing active beta testing.

As conceived by the authors, the Tec-9 should not be such a simple weapon and more reflect its essence - mobility and relatively high kill rate. However, it will still remain a formidable weapon in the skilled hands of professionals. However, the Tec-9 is just the beginning. In the future, developers are going to significantly redo all other types of pistols. Time will tell how these changes will affect the current state of affairs in e-sports.
