How to use Google Maps. Satellite map of the world online from Google Step by step Google map

  • 06.11.2021

Even before Google Maps officially rolled out the feature of saving map sections for offline, with a WiFi connection, you could scale the map in detail along your route, the data was stored in the cache and was available without the Internet. So you could forever forget about buying offline maps for your travels. But the useful features of Google maps are not limited to this. We tell you what else will be useful on a trip and even at home.

Feature: offline maps

Use: for navigation without internet connection

With this feature, you can do without tricks with zooming in on the desired areas and saving them in the cache. Open the left menu (sandwich button in the search bar), select "Offline Maps". In the tab you will see all your saved cards and the option "Another card". Click on it, select the desired area and save it to your phone. Now you will have access to navigation even in a remote village.

Feature: departure time

Use: to calculate travel time to train station/airport

Being in an unfamiliar city, you can now quickly navigate by the amount of travel time. Useful if you want to know what time you need to go to the airport or how many minutes it takes to transfer. Fill in the route in the maps, choose the public transport icon. Under it will appear the line "Departure to ...". Here you can specify the time and see which transport will take you to your destination in what time. In the "Parameters" you can specify the type of transport and priorities, such as "less walking / transfers." When building a route with reference to time, the traffic load at this time of the day is taken into account, which means that traffic jams and traffic are also taken into account.

Feature: local transport

Use: for planning routes around the city

The same function can be used to plan movements around the city. You will be shown all the necessary routes and transfers. Keep in mind that this works well in cities, for example, in Europe, and will not work in countries where public transport does not care about its schedule.

Feature: Near

Use: when you check into your Airbnb and look for a grocery store in the area

Google works well with the near command. If you are in an unfamiliar area and are urgently looking for a coffee shop or grocery store, enter, for example, "coffee shop near Alexanderplatz", and all the nearest establishments will be displayed on the map.

Feature: Share Directions

Use: to tell a friend where to find your hostel

Feature: book a taxi

Use: to get to places you have no idea about

You can call a taxi directly from Google maps. The service supports integration with Uber, Lyft, and many local services. Price offers are visible right in the application, payment data will be automatically pulled from your account in the application, say, Uber. The function is working, tested on myself in Berlin. From a conversation with a taxi driver, it turned out that the cost from the card was lower than a direct order in the service.

Feature: Custom Map

Use: for short visits and routes around the city

If you have very little time in the city, a customized map will help you do everything. At home, you make up a route from the required places, and then you quickly navigate the place along it. If you are a control freak, then you can plan every day of your trip like this. The chip only works from the desktop, because there is a lot of functionality that you can’t shove into the phone. come in here and start creating your map. You can share it with friends and arrange quests in cities.

Feature: navigation in buildings

Use: when trying not to get lost at the airport

A new map feature that is not yet available everywhere. The map shows the plan of especially large and complex buildings (for example, Charles de Gaulle Airport). Convenient if you are trying to find your gate or exit from an intricate mall. Check if your next airport is already there.

Feature: navigation for motorists

Use: for comfortable car travel

Everyone already knows that Google maps build quite convenient and detailed routes for cars. In addition, they learned to take into account the load on the road. In the upper right menu, you can instruct the system to guide you past toll roads or freeways. In the route around the city, you can add stops, say, for coffee. This is done using the upper right menu, the option "Add stop".

And good news for all android owners. In test 25 cities, a parking overview is now available. Maps will show where parking is not very good, and can also remind you where you left your car. For iOS, this feature is currently not available.

Bonus.

Chips to enjoy from home

Feature: Local Guide

Use: Help others to earn more space on Google Drive

The service is designed to help travelers navigate the cafes and attractions in the new city. You can become a local expert and update maps in your area. Google thanks for this with invitations to its events and additional disk space.

Feature: chronology

Use: to be nostalgic and/or scared

Feature: Google Maps - Travel

Use: to get stuck

The recently launched service has 23 locations. These are world landmarks photographed in the coolest quality in 360°. You can virtually wander through them and see places that you yourself may not get to soon: Angkor Wat, Fujiyama and the Great Barrier Reef are waiting for you.

Look for more chips , and share the most interesting in the comments.

Hello, dear readers of the blog site. Recently I wrote about and how you can use them on your site. Now it's the turn of a similar service from another major player in this market - Google Maps. These two products compete in Runet, but Google is the undisputed leader in the world.

In addition, now they are moving to a new type of maps, where much has become more understandable and convenient, and it has also become possible to use the capabilities of Google Earth (once it was a separate application for a computer) without installing additional plug-ins in the browser.

In this article, we will also look at ways to embed Google maps on your site, both when using the old interface and when using the new one. Moreover, this is done quite simply, although the API capabilities, as in the case of Yandex, will provide the developer with almost unlimited possibilities.

Features of Google maps and how to connect a new interface

Google Maps itself was launched in 2005. Almost at the same time, the company acquired a program with similar functionality, which later became known as Google Earth. It was distinguished from the online version by the ability to display the landscape of the area and the buildings of some cities in 3D.

To render such graphics, it was necessary to use additional hardware capabilities of the computer. Subsequently, it became possible to get the same effect in the online version of the maps, but this required the installation of a browser plugin. In the new version of Maps, this feature is integrated into the online version by default and is activated automatically if your computer meets the minimum performance requirements and an acceptable browser is installed. But first things first.

Just like in Yandex, you can add your organization to the Google map and build the best travel route (by car, public transport, plane, on foot or by bike). Not in all places of our vast planet it will be possible to use all these methods, but nevertheless.

In the new interface, it will be enough to enter the starting point in the search bar, and to select the second point, use "How to get there".

By the way, about the new Google Maps interface. It is still being tested (it is possible that by the time you read this publication, it will already be over) and if the browser you are using supports all the features of the novelty, then you will be offered to try it out.

How to add your company to Google Maps

The main view of Google maps lives at maps.google.ru. You will also be prompted add your company details :

Be sure to take advantage of this opportunity, because despite the fact that users type the bulk of commercial requests in Yandex, its bourgeois counterpart should not be discounted and neglected by various opportunities to attract traffic from it.

In general, there you will only need to check the consent box and click the "Continue" button:

Just in case, you will be prompted to find your company in the Google database, after which you can safely click on “This is not my company. Create a new entry.

After that, you will be asked to fill out a form, i.e. enter data about your organization and add it to the Google Maps database so that this information is shown to users who are in some way interested in receiving this information. In general, this action will not be superfluous.

If for some reason you have not yet been offered take advantage of the new version of Google Maps, then invite yourself by clicking on this link - google.com/maps/preview/.

As I understand it, the new Google Maps may not work in all browsers and not on all devices. However, in Chrome on a desktop computer, they feel great, and I use this option, because, in my opinion, it is much more usable.

If you don't like the new Google Maps of the future, then back to classic and the familiar interface you can by clicking on the question mark located in the lower right corner and selecting the lowest item:

3D Google Earth objects on Google online maps

And, of course, about 3d Google Earth integrated into the online version is worth mentioning. You can switch to this view mode by clicking on the square with the inscription "Earth" in the lower left corner:

After you do this, the toolbar will change its purpose somewhat and will look something like this (a compass will appear and the ability to change the angle at which you can view the map):

It will be possible to look at satellite images not only from above, but also from the side, discretely changing the angle of inclination. Well, what am I telling you - with Google Earth, you yourself probably played and understand what's what:

By default, the so-called simplified mode may be enabled on your computer when 3D model of the Earth and other 3D objects are not available. The opposite situation is also possible, when the new Google Earth-enabled mode will be too slow on your hardware and you want to switch to a simplified one.

No problem, just use the links:

  1. Forced transition to a simplified mode of displaying new Google maps

If you are still using classic map view, then Google Earth option can be selected by moving the mouse cursor in the upper right corner to the square with the inscription "Satellite", and then clicking on the appeared square "Earth".

If you haven't installed the browser plugin yet, you will be prompted to do so.

Well, in fact, you will end up with the functionality of Google Earth in your browser.

But this functionality is by and large the only difference between Google maps and others. Everything else is available from competitors, but for whom it works better, it's up to you to decide. For example, all the same routing works more or less acceptable in Yandex on the territory of the former Soviet Union, but outside of it, everything is not so great.

Traffic, street view and directions on Google Maps

In Google Maps, by the way, it is also possible to show the traffic situation, i.e. traffic jams. On the classic online version, the layer with traffic jams can be connected in the upper right corner:

In the same place it will be possible to connect a layer with photos to be able to see the pictures taken at the place of interest to you. AT new layer map interface with photos not as such, but they are always present at the bottom under the search bar or open at the bottom of the window using the corresponding arrows:

On the new Google Maps, the traffic layer is activated in the area below the search bar:

Its legend (color differentiation) will be given at the bottom of the window drop-down from the search bar. There you can also see traffic forecast on google maps for the day and hour you need:

Function route planning in the classic interface is available from the right column after pressing the corresponding button:

In general, everything you need is there. You set the start and end point of the route, you get several travel options, which can be different when choosing a mode of transportation: car, public transport or your own feet.

In the new Google Maps interface, everything looks more concise, I think. The one you are currently viewing is taken as the starting point of reference, and to enter the final one, just click on the "How to get there" button located at the bottom of the search bar:

As a result, Google will display several routes on the map (the main one is shown in blue, and the alternative ones in gray), the travel time for which will be calculated taking into account the current traffic situation (traffic jams):

Again, the best route can be calculated for a trip by car, walking or traveling by public transport. For some countries, a calculation for a bike ride or an airplane flight will still be available. In general, everything is grown-up.

You can show or hide traffic jams on the route, add some exceptions hiding under the "Parameters" spoiler, and also get a text description of the constructed route using the "By steps" link.

And finally, the crazy option of any modern online maps - street view(in Yandex it was called panoramas). In Google Maps, it is activated in a rather original way - you will need to drag the yellow man (in the classic version he lives in the upper left corner, and in the new one in the opposite lower corner) to where you want to see the surroundings with your own eyes.

There are a lot of options for using this option - from a banal virtual study of the future route of movement, to a virtual journey where you have never been or have been, but want to refresh your memories or stumble. In Google, this opportunity is even more remarkable, because the whole world opens up before you, and not just the large cities of Russia, as it was in Yandex.

In general, we throw a little man in the right place and see street panorama in this place. You can zoom in and out, move forward, look in all directions, up and down with the mouse or arrows on the keyboard.

It is clear that you are all used to this, but if you think about it, it becomes clear all the tremendous work that has been done by the employees of the Google maps department to realize the full coverage of the entire globe (well, not all, but a significant part of it). There is even an option to travel inside buildings, such as hotels, as shown in this video:

To do this, cars with precise geopositioning systems and a number of cameras traveled around cities and villages, which later allowed them to collect a panorama from the pictures taken. People with equipment carried behind their backs worked in hard-to-reach places. Faces and license plates caught in the photo are blurred on purpose to avoid unnecessary incidents.

How to get google map for your website

With Google Maps, the situation is about the same - in order to insert a location map on your site, you don’t need much intelligence, but only a specialist can do more complex ones, or an extension (plugin) for the engine you use (CMS) will help you with this.

As a result, a window will open where on the second tab "The code" you can choose the size of the window in which your map will fit (you can change it later by replacing the numbers in the width="" height="" attributes of the iframe tag in the code).

It will turn out something like this (the scheme is clickable - the mouse and keyboard buttons react to your passes):

However, this is not exactly what we need. There is no way to draw a route manually, put labels with captions, select the necessary objects. In fact, everything described can be done, but for this we need a special tool. It's called Google Maps Engine Lite .

Choosing an option "Create a new card", you will have at your disposal a constructor with tools already familiar to Yandex - adding a label, drawing lines and routes.

For starters, for example, put a label where your office is located (give it a name, description, and specify the site URL). Then click on it with the left mouse button and select the paving route icon. A field will open on the left, where you will need to enter a starting point (for example, the nearest metro station), after which Google will create a route to your office.

If you wish, you can circle the office building with a line and close it to get it highlighted in the background color (you can also add a name, description and website for this object). As a result, in the Google Maps Engine Lite editor, all this disgrace will look something like this:

Select "Public on the Internet" and save the changes.

Click "Ready" in the previous window. After that, click on the folder icon in the upper left corner of Google Maps Engine Lite and select "Add to site":

Actually, everything. Copy the code, if necessary, adjust the dimensions of the Google map window in width and height (width = "" height = "" attributes of the iframe tag) and paste the code into any page of your site directly (frames should not be cut by the visual editor you use).

How to create a classic map and add it to your site

In the classic Google maps interface you can go to the "My Places" tab and click on the "Create Map" button. As a result, you will be taken to the already familiar Google Maps Engine Lite window. But we have already considered this a little higher and therefore is of no interest.

However, you can also click on the link "Classic UI", where again you will have extensive opportunities to create a map for your site. In the upper left area there are tools for applying your markup to the Google map.

You can put labels of different suits:

You can highlight knowledge by drawing polygons, and create a route from the nearest metro station using the Draw Line Along Roads tool. For each created markup element, you can add a title and description.

The same can be done for the card itself, after which you will need to select "Open access" and click on the button "Ready".

After saving, select the created map and click on the "Link" icon at the top left and select the option shown in the screenshot "Setup and Preview":

In the window that opens, you can set the width and height of the scheme, and using the mouse or the buttons located in the preview area, you can position the objects you added (by changing the scale of the map and moving it), and you can also click on the label to display the name you specified and description in the popup.

That's all, copy the code and paste it on the site (the iframe tag is usually not cut by visual editors and there should be no problems with pasting). In more detail, the issue of insertion is reflected in the article about Yandex maps mentioned at the beginning. The result should be something like this:

Second part of the code:

View Directions in a larger map

I removed the unnecessary link. Well, somewhere like that. If these features are not enough for you, then you are welcome to the Google Maps API for developers. Javascript programming skills are required.

Although you can still try to find plugins for your engine(WordPress, Joomla), who can offer you their own map builder based on the mentioned API. As a result, you can get something original and then insert the resulting map on the site is no longer difficult at all - the plugin will do it for you. If there is something in mind, then I will be glad to add your information to the article. Thanks in advance.

Good luck to you! See you soon on the blog pages site

Next year, the Google Maps project will celebrate a round date - a decade since its inception, and it has much to be proud of. Over its decade, it has acquired all sorts of services, APIs, has become commercially successful and popular all over the world.

As for the mobile version for Android, it became available to users simultaneously with the official release of this operating system in 2008, and its work was shown to journalists long before this event. Since then, the functionality of "Maps" has been constantly supplemented, and the application itself has been continuously improved. New countries were “subdued” to him, where dozens and hundreds of detailed city maps, street photographs, StreetView mode, satellite and aerial photography, routes using public transport and auto-navigation appeared. We will focus on the latter function in our review, focusing mainly on its applicability on the territory of Russia.

Pricing and licensing policy

The application is free for the end user. Only the use of the Maps API for commercial purposes is paid (not in all cases). There are also traffic limits when using the API, for exceeding which a separate fee is charged.

System requirements

There are versions for all Android OSes, but OS versions 4.0 and later are recommended.

* the function is declared and described in the help section, and was also present in previous versions of the application, but starting from 7.6.x it was not possible to find and use it

Interface

The application interface is simple, beautiful and practical at the same time. In a sense, it can also be called spartan: there are a minimum of controls on the screen and a minimum of details on the map. Building outlines only appear at very large scales, there is no clutter of POI icons as you scroll through the map.

Newfangled 3D is present, with many buildings having not only the appropriate height, but also full-fledged 3D models. To evaluate it, you need to tilt the map by swiping two fingers from the bottom up on the screen.

The main menu is also ascetic to the limit.

And the settings section is completely empty.

It is also very pleasant that even on low-power single-core systems, the application works very quickly. Scrolling the map is easy and virtually lag-free.

Brief Summary

Liked: austerity, simplicity, fast and smooth operation.

Did not like: -

Search and work with the map

Who would doubt that apart from the universal search string, the application does not provide anything else. It is simple and convenient, in addition, it has voice input, implemented by the built-in OS tools. But the latter is a little hard on the ear. Yandex has much better recognition.

Of course, the search string has a subscript that shows the most likely (or popular) options as you type a word or phrase. However, it often contains phrases of 8-10 words. Where they come from is hard to say.

Text search also has its own “hearing loss”. Although there are no particular problems with buildings, buildings and letters of houses (but sometimes misfires still occur, so you are always waiting for a catch), the system is already confused with the possessions. For example, you won’t be able to find “Bulatnikovskaya Poslenie 2” on the map in Moscow, where the Lukoil gas station is located, even if you write “Bulatnikovskaya vl2d” in the line, as it appears in the caption on the map itself, or “Bulatnikovskaya, 2 - D”, as this is indicated in the information about the gas station on the map, or "Bulatnikovskaya, possession 2D", as it is written in the information about the building, if you just click on it on the map. Confused? So Google is also confused. It's hard for him in Russia. But further - more. If you type “Bulatnikovskaya 4 k2” in the search, then the application will begin to slip you Bolotnikovskaya Street, located in another district of Moscow, where there are houses with similar numbers:

A similar problem is observed when searching for some other streets.

There is also a problem with POI. Do you need to find an OBI store near the Teply Stan metro station? According to Google, he moved to the city of Vidnoye:

Of course, we specifically issued a selection of crazy things (not all, we save your time). Therefore, we add that, in general, the search is not as bad as we described it, but it is not as good and convenient as that of Yandex.Navigator. When searching for POIs in Google Maps, there is a lot of garbage, errors, and sometimes there is no information about large shopping malls and centers. But it also has a big plus: user ratings and reviews tied to POIs. And also photographs.

Of course, you can also leave your own review, rating or photo if you wish.

Another positive point is that by pointing to any place on the map, you can get the necessary information on it (telephone, website, etc.), including the above-mentioned photos, reviews and ratings.

Also, through viewing additional information, you can switch to the street panorama view mode (Streetview).

If you noticed an error on the map, you can report it to the developers in a couple of clicks.

And I would like to wish this approach to everyone. True, we did not wait for any reaction to our couple of significant comments a week later.

Brief Summary

Liked: the presence of a universal search string, reviews and ratings, the Streetview function, the ability to report an error.

Did not like: you always expect misinformation from the search, the average work of the speech recognition function, errors and garbage in the POI database, unmoderated reviews and the absence of a filter by words, a crooked interlinear.

Relevance of maps

Traditionally, we make an assessment at this point, studying those places on the map that have changed recently and are well known to the author of this article. And this is the second time in our practice, after a detailed study of the six most popular navigation applications for Android, when we see a map of Moscow in a relatively neglected state. A lot of new roads and interchanges are either completely absent or drawn incorrectly. For example, the junction of Podolsky cadets street and the Moscow Ring Road contains only a turning overpass over the Moscow Ring Road, which in fact does not exist. That is, who and from what hangover drew this denouement is a mystery. Just in case, here is a screenshot of this disgrace in comparison with Yandex.Navigator:

But this interchange is most clearly shown on Yandex.Maps:

Similar problems were noticed on Profsoyuznaya, Yaroslavl and other highways.

The situation is aggravated by the fact that the multi-level interchanges are displayed not in accordance with which roadway is higher (which, logically, should be drawn from above), and sometimes chaotically and unpredictably.

There is also a problem with addresses. Parts of new buildings put into operation 4-5 years ago are not on the map at all. The other part is present as flat outlines without addresses.

In general, all this is strange.

Routes and navigation

The app immediately announces that the auto-navigation feature is in beta.

And we fully agree with this. The developers still have something to work on, although, in general, everything functions relatively well. But let's go in order.

I was very pleased that several routes are built at once, and then the user is given a choice, where the distance and time of movement for each of them are indicated, taking into account traffic congestion. All routes can be simultaneously displayed on the map and compared visually.

Of course, more than one route will only be built when it makes sense.

The routes themselves are quite adequate, and there are no particular complaints about them. At the time of construction, you can set three parameters, the most relevant of which is the exclusion of toll roads.

The navigation process is quite typical. The application shows the distance to the nearest maneuver and its direction, timely warns about all this by voice. The route itself is easy to read on the map, and all the maneuvers on it are displayed with white arrows, which is very convenient. Also, traffic jams are visible on the route line when viewing it.

When leaving the route, the application uses the logic "detour" and does not play on the nerves by continuous requests to turn around at the first opportunity.

But this is where the “honey” ends and the “fly in the ointment” begins. Firstly, there is no display and warning about cameras, as well as about speed limits on the current section of the route. And although the vast majority of drivers have already trained not to exceed the speed by more than 20 km / h, it still happens to think or miss a sign, and a navigator would be a good helper here.

Secondly, there is no way to set DPOI - at least we have not been able to figure out how to do this. However, DPOIs set in the Waze app, which was recently bought by Google, are also displayed on Google Maps (not in all regions), which can be seen on the maps of other countries.

DPOIs are also found there, where there is no note that they were supplied by Waze users. In general, while we do not have a normal answer to this question.

With traffic jams in Moscow, too, not everything is going smoothly. After several days of driving, I got the impression that the same Yandex information is much more relevant, although it is also not without sin.

Brief Summary

Liked: adequate routes, convenient choice of route options.

Did not like: no camera alerts, no speed limit display, no DPOI, not quite adequate traffic data.

All sorts of "buns"

Historically, in terms of navigation, the application has been more focused on walking, using public transport, as well as finding various POIs. And this is his strength. It will not only build a route, but also guide you along it. He will tell you in advance on the bus which stop you will get off at and where to go to transfer to another mode of transport, if necessary. Suburban trains are not forgotten either, and routes are built taking into account their schedule.

On foot, the situation is a little worse. Google does not have enough data on pedestrian crossings over railroads and highways.

And if navigation on public transport in Moscow works very well and, by the way, also offers several route options, which is very convenient, then the schemes of public places for Russia (railway stations, airports, shopping centers, etc.) are still exotic. There are about three dozen of them in Moscow and St. Petersburg. It is difficult to find them in popular foreign countries, but, as they say, it's a start.

Testing

Installation

With the installation, problems will arise for devices that have a regional reference to China. For them, Google Play does not display "Maps" at all. Trying to find a distribution kit on the Web can take some time, since distribution kits are different for different platforms and OS versions. But if your device is not a "purebred Chinese", then, most likely, "Maps" is already preinstalled in it.

Route time

Since the routing also takes place on the remote server, a lot will depend on the speed of your current connection. With good communication, the typical time for building two or three route options of any distance takes 1-3 seconds.

Utilization of system resources

On single-core entry-level systems, the application loads in 2-4 seconds. In the process of conducting along the route, the utilization of the SoC computing core fluctuates at the level of 50-70%. When scrolling the map and changing the scale, it tends to 90%, but all actions are quite smooth. On the one hand, it's not bad, but on the other, it could have been better, since the graphics are very simple, and the map detail is extremely low, up to the largest scales.

The space in the internal memory is consumed very sparingly. After a week of trips, studying maps of Moscow and the region, some cities of Russia, as well as some other countries, the cache of cards took about 65 MB. And it is located here: /mnt/sdcard/Android/data/com.google.android.apps.maps/cache/.

Network traffic per trip

In Moscow traffic jams, it runs 5-6 MB / h, if the map cache was empty before, and you used the search and map scrolling at different scales along the route.

findings

At the moment, using the Google Maps application as a car navigator in Russia looks like a somewhat dubious undertaking. Here is an untimely updated map with a capricious and demanding system for entering addresses, and a littered POI database with errors and unmoderated comments, and a lack of warnings about cameras and speed limits. (By the way, Yandex.Navigator also does not inform you about the speed limit, but warns you about cameras when it has already "spotted" you.) And all sorts of minor flaws. As a result, if you choose the lesser of two free "evils", then this is Yandex. Although there will certainly be separate regions where some part of the Google map will be rendered better, and here everyone decides for himself.

So what's good about Google Maps? They will definitely be of use in foreign trips. Also, many should appreciate the construction of routes using public transport and guidance on them. Add reviews and ratings of POI, street panoramas here! So Google Maps, of course, will not be superfluous.

A huge number of people on the planet have been using it for a long time. But, despite this, millions of people do not know many tricks and tricks (secrets and hidden features) that can be used on the cards. Some tricks can be very useful, while other hidden features may come in handy only as a last resort. That is why each of us must know the true possibilities. We offer you ten secrets of various functions of Google maps that you may not know about.

1. Offline operation of maps on a mobile device

If you don't want Google maps on your mobile device to consume k for , you can save the necessary map area in advance, which will work offline during your trip. To do this, enter the command in the search field: " okay maps " and click the search icon. The system will then prompt you to save the selected area of the map. This is very convenient, since downloading maps via mobile Internet not only consumes traffic, but also downloads very slowly.

2. Create multiple routes with intermediate stops

On Google Maps, you can create routes with multiple stops. This is a very convenient way to set up in advance all your possible routes throughout the day with intermediate stops. This feature will be very convenient for people who are in an unfamiliar city, as well as for those who need to plan their trips for the whole day. By setting up multiple routes, you won't need to set up a new route each time from where you left. The route selection panel has a symbol " + ", with which you can add alternative routes that you will need throughout the day.

3. Ability to edit Google maps

If you notice that there are inaccuracies on the map or some organization is no longer located at a certain address, each user can now make his personal contribution to editing the map. There is a function for this Google Maps Map Maker. With the help of this service, anyone can join the society of cartographers who help Google improve maps. With Map Maker, you can add new places and objects on the map, as well as report that an institution is located at a new address. True, we draw your attention to the fact that all new changes indicated by users undergo preliminary moderation before they appear. This Google feature is a great way to contribute to the development of Google Maps.

This is a good way to let people know where you are. This way you will not be distracted by writing messages in order to tell people where you are, and you will not remember exactly the address of your location (it often happens that we cannot accurately describe our location).

5. Find postal addresses on the maps (zip code, address, etc.)

This is a great way to find out the exact postal address of any object on the map. If you want to know the postal address of a building, just click on the building, and the maps will show you the full address (with index) of this object. This is a great way to find out the exact address of an organization.

6. Tweaking Google Maps

Many people are probably aware of the extensive settings that Google Maps has. But, nevertheless, it turns out that people do not know how extensive these function settings are. So, Google provides the ability to synchronize maps that are on mobile devices with maps that you use on your computer. This allows you to set up travel routes on your computer, turn on navigation on your phone in the morning, and automatically download route settings to your device. This not only saves time when setting up a route, but also allows you to.

7. Save places on the map where you visit very often

If you visit the same places often, then the maps allow you to save, in order to save traffic, certain places in the area (which you often visit), which you can go to when you need it. You can also set up specific driving directions for saved places. When visiting a saved place on the map, the route will be built for you automatically.

8. Create your own map

9. Find public transport routes on the map, get directions for walking, and customize bike routes

Most people use maps to get directions while driving. Many mistakenly believe that Google Maps navigation is only for motorists. In fact, Google Maps provides the ability to get directions when traveling by public transport, cycling or walking.

When setting up routes for walking, cycling or public transport, everything works exactly the same as . The only difference is the route paths. Such routes are often more profitable than when driving your own vehicle, since often the best routes can only be built where a car cannot pass.

For example, with a bicycle route, you can build a route that will help you get to your destination as quickly as possible.

10. Display on the map all objects in the visible area of the map

If you cannot find the required object in the search (for example, you do not remember the name or address of the object), then you can type the symbol " * " (star) and click the search icon. This special command will display all objects that are on the map in the visible area of the map. After that, you can easily find the desired object.

It can also be useful if you are driving or passing a certain object and want to find out what is in this building. By typing the symbol " * ", you will find out all the necessary information about the object that is near you.

Google Maps is a very powerful platform that is improving and growing every day. Proper use of maps will make your journey easier, and the search for the necessary addresses and objects will become more efficient and convenient for you.

Two Google Maps maps - scheme and satellite

Hello, dear friends of the portal site!

Two Google Maps (Scheme and Satellite), which can be used to compare any object in any city (street, house) and country in the world. Visibility of a geographical object on the map and a view from space (Google satellite map), street panorama (drag the orange man to the diagram)

It is enough to type the required address in the Google Maps search form. It can be the name of a country, city, street. For a more accurate search, we advise you to combine your query to Google

Example: Moscow Tverskaya 11, or another address in Moscow (as in any city in the world)

In this case, the database of the Google Maps 2019 service will correctly match the coordinates with the address being typed. Believe me, it will do just as well as + show interesting and popular places in the world. This sufficiently guarantees the output of the exact location of the search object.

By default, two maps show the sunny city of Los Angeles (satellite and normal). By changing the proposed scale +/- , you can see in more detail each street with houses (Los Angeles)

The City of Angels is the second most populated city in the United States. Disneyland (Anaheim) and the Hollywood sign are also located there. By zooming out on the satellite map from the satellite (-), you will witness an interesting metamorphosis. It remains to try. Street photos (satellite images) and panoramic view are also available on both maps

By the way, you will find Disneyland itself at these coordinates. Copy Ctrl+C and paste into the search form Ctrl+V

33.810781,-117.918978

Similar interesting things await here during the zoom out (-). Having zoomed in on the diagram to the maximum, you can also use the Google Maps "Reversal Arrow" tool (appears above the zoom tool).

Back in Los Angeles, there is an office of Google Corporation at Los Angeles 340 Main Street (and type to search). One of 70 offices in 40 countries

In some cases, it is necessary to compare two different objects in the same view. For example, consider the desired street on a map of the city of Moscow from a satellite - or pictures of roads and squares. First we find the capital of Russia on the map. Previously, they were able to determine the latitude and longitude of any city in the world. Then we switch the map from above to the “Satellite” view (lower left corner). The map in Russian below will remain as it was. Here is a comparison of two Google Maps
