Nfs most wanted 2 game review.

  • 04.07.2020

Do not think that paradise awaits you here. The city where the Most Wanted - Fairhaven races take place has dusty streets and an extremely unfriendly atmosphere. In it, industrial districts stretch all the way to the coastal docks and shipyards, and the city center is a jumbled jumble of concrete and scaffolding. The second coming of the developers from Criterion Games to the world of Need for Speed \u200b\u200bmay to some extent resemble the beloved racing arcade Burnout Paradise with its completely open cities. But in the case of NFS, the developer company needs to adhere to the terms of the license agreements, so some (often minimal) restrictions on the routes will still be present here. And the pathos of Most Wanted (2012) will clearly be more than that of the games of the semi-punk Burnout series.

If we try to compare the new Most Wanted with Hot Pursuit, then here we will see more differences than similarities. While in the game of 2010 all the energy of the racing car was torn forward, the web of highways, avenues and lanes of Fairhaven makes it necessary to shift the emphasis slightly away from speed alone. As a result, we see a much more varied, but no longer adrenaline-boosting game at all. In Most Wanted, we will once again witness a showdown between the two best drivers. But if in Hot Pursuit it was an uncompromising struggle between rivals that are irreconcilable in their philosophy (a policeman is a hijacker) and the brands of their cars, then everything here will take place in a much more peaceful atmosphere.

However, this does not make Most Wanted a less interesting game for us in any way. After all, from the very first minutes of staying in Fairhaven and wandering through its nooks, you are literally intoxicated by this city. Criterion has worked hard to ensure that players do not have to be bored on the city streets: there are many inconspicuous gates behind which new routes are hidden; billboards beckon to slip through them; and you can get to the garage from more than one point on the map.

In short, the city is made in the best traditions of open-world games: you are immediately delighted with it. There is so much to do and so much to learn in Fairhaven that it is almost impossible to stick strictly to one particular path. Most likely, instead of this, from the very beginning, to celebrate, you will change cars every ten minutes and rush them randomly around the city. For the most part, all cars in Most Wanted are available from the very beginning of the game and there are no restrictions for conducting friendly races. In other words, just a few minutes after the start of Most Wanted, you will be able to see firsthand what drives faster: serial Porsches, vintage Lamborghinis or real autoexotics from Nikolai Fomenko, like the Marussia B2.

For many in this world, the main thing is to stand out, to say about yourself as loudly as possible ... But there is someone who does not need to be loud to be heard. Bright to grab attention. He does not need words to declare himself. (c)

It is a pleasure to be behind the wheel of these cars. In this, Criterion has not changed its traditions. Performing drifts on them turns into a real art: balancing the weight of the car, you need to catch such a moment so that with the help of the inertia force alone, the car slides sideways along the track and at the most crucial moment does not touch its rear part of the road fence.

The process of taming this power hidden under the hood will also bring you a lot of pleasure. After all, you are dealing with primitive beasts, growling and ready at any second to rush from place into battle, raising a cloud of dust behind them. And just try not to accept the challenge posed to you by a stranger in a Lamborghini Aventador on a cold dark night: you will immediately be written into the category of weaklings, and there is no place for such in the pack.

One of the few similar moments with the 2005 game of the same name in Most Wanted (2012) is the possibility of a complete modification of the car to suit your own tastes. When you see the cars for the first time, they will appear in front of you in their original, untouched appearance. But as soon as the first successful races begin, nitrogen acceleration, gearbox upgrades, new tires and more are unlocked. As strange as it may sound, there is even some connection between the new game and Call of Duty: just like in the cult shooter, here each set of components is best suited for its own specific race.

You can select the appropriate game mode using the D key on the keyboard - this is how the EasyDrive smart mode is implemented in Most Wanted (2012). This is analogous to a similar function from Burnout Paradise, which allows you to access game settings without leaving it. While the ribbon of the road goes into the distance before your eyes, you can choose a suitable race for yourself, join the game with friends (yes, there is multiplayer) or change your car. Of course, it is most convenient to use this option when you are not participating in any competitions, but simply driving aimlessly around the city in search of adventure.

Designed by Criterion, the races are another crazy adrenaline-filled adventure. These are lightning-fast races, during which sparks fly from under the wheels of cars with the same frequency and intensity as from an open-hearth furnace at a steel mill. But behind all this furious grinding of iron on the asphalt with subsequent special effects, it is the struggle that underlies all the races in the Burnout series and evolved in Hot Pursuit (when you could play as a cop or as a car thief), it looks a little different here.

There are several reasons for this. Firstly, the slow-motion camera when overtaking, which has been the hallmark of Criterion for so long, simply took and disappeared from the game. In addition, without the signature ability of Hot Pursuit to change the opposing sides in the confrontation between police and hijackers (recall that in Most Wanted you are always a delinquent, and never a servant of the law), you now have to invent any clever delights much less often. And the game modes, which can be selected while driving around the city, look rather weak consolation against this background.

Fairhaven is nowhere near as rich in races as Paradise in Burnout, nor is it nearly as diverse as in Hot Pursuit's Seacrest County. There are only four types of offline races available here, and one car can participate in no more than five races. This, of course, is not bad if your goal is to thoroughly study the bowels of the Most Wanted garage. But it's a little frustrating when you prefer consistency.

However, the common thread running through the entire single-player Most Wanted mode is one unique feature of this game. In the city of Fairhaven you will find ten cars that will unlock if you can beat them on the track. Each such race opens only after you have collected the required number of Speed \u200b\u200bPoints - the game currency, which, with a certain amount of perseverance, can be earned in abundance.

Most Wanted (2012) is also distinguished by its pronounced social orientation. Autolog is back - almost the key factor around which players unite - now it covers much more than the territory of the city of Fairhaven. Success is no longer measured in seconds: in Most Wanted you will receive points for knocked down police posts and rammed bigboards, and every centimeter of the track will give you new opportunities and challenge you.

Despite its unattractive appearance, Fairhaven is an excellent venue for competitive competitions in cars... And a special charm on its streets is acquired by races in multiplayer mode. Variety and originality, which are a bit lacking in the single Most Wanted races, have found their place in reckless multiplayer, where eight participants rush frantically through the city, each with their own goal.

You can drive as long as you like along the skid track among city warehouses (until you are interrupted by an opponent in the most unceremonious way), team up with someone to achieve the highest results in races on the oncoming “Near Miss” (in which points are awarded for the fact that you at the last moment you avoid a collision with an oncoming car), or simply drive in races in a straight line from point to point. Your results will be recorded in the Speed \u200b\u200bList table, where every second will be important in order to rise above your friends.

This is what defines the characteristic features of Most Wanted. You may not identify with your character as strongly in it as you do in other Criterion games. However, the spirit of competition, thirst for discovery and simple driving pleasure are present in large quantities. And even if this game is a little less than ideal, we like it like that. And who, after all, sets the criteria for what is the ideal?

Is it worth playing? (based on reader ratings)

How do you like the game? 0 (1 positive / 1 negative)

This time Electronic Arts pleases us with another "masterpiece" NFS... The game is very similar to Burnout: Paradise, it's also good that they were made by one developer Criterion Games... You probably wanted to get a good plot, have fun, relax, drive tuned supercars across the vast world, make fun of the cops, look at the models in the videos of the new Most Wanted? Don't worry, none of the above will happen. It feels like Criterion Games have not played previous games in the series, but EA I didn’t look at what these guys were creating.

When the game was shown on E3, I was very happy. Finally, my beloved NFS: Most Wanted will be reissued, on a new engine with good graphics and improved physics. Again, we will go through the blacklist and rejoice at the beautiful photo model, our main assistant. And so, crossing my fingers before starting the game, I saw a video clip in which they tell me about a beautiful and big city Fairhaven, then there were a few more training videos and that's it, I'm free. "Do what you want" - this is the slogan of the new Most Wanted... It looks like the developer has understood the term "free ride" too literally - now you are always on the street, but you can drive into any corner of the city.

Josie Maran, she was with us at Most Wanted (2005)... Calling her to a new one was not at all necessary, it was enough just to call someone ...

It's hard to call a game a race if it doesn't have a garage, auto shop and tuning shops. But Easy drive, here is the innovation that distinguishes the new Most Wanted from his little brothers and makes it a race. Do you want to get to some event? - Easy! Want a new engine, nitrous oxide, brake changes? - A couple of clicks and you have them. It's simple, but not realistic. Where did you see that the car would change, for example, stock tires for low-profile tires on the move? Did not see? “It's possible here. I closed my eyes to this miscalculation and counted Easy drive plus the game.

And now what I'm ready to tear off the developers' hands for is video inserts with accidents. You ride calmly and collide, there would be no easy way to go further, we are shown a long video where we crash. And they show us so sloppy from different angles and even in slow motion. As the developers will not understand that this is superfluous, such inserts interfere with a calm game, distract us and do not make sense, since after such a video the car is again on the road, and even on wheels, despite the fact that it flew into the bushes, we turned it over ...

Let's remember the old Most Wanted and new. From the old to the new, only 3 things have passed: races with the police, a blacklist and unfinished physics. I won't talk about physics, but I'll tell you about the blacklist, the plot of the game, and the cops. In the old MW there were 15 riders, in the new one they were cut to 10. Okay, close your eyes, the main list is there. The old one had a good plot, what's the new one? The developers have forgotten about it, no matter how funny or sad it may sound, it simply does not exist and that's it. Self-development is also absent, all cool cars are open from the very beginning of the game, you just need to sit in them without paying a penny. Tuning is also practically absent, you can improve the filling, a new upgrade is opened with each victory in the race (1st or 2nd place), but all cars are good from the very beginning and they don't really need an upgrade. And there is no external at all, changed the body and that's it, the color of your beauty is new every time, after passing through the "workshop" it changes.

Racing with cops became an unbearable torment, for some reason they removed the scenery that could be knocked down on police cars, and shelters. Out of habit, you are looking for a saving donut, but it is not. Suddenly they cut you off and press you against the wall from all sides, it seems that this is the end and you have already prepared to part with the swallow ... everything is arrested ... You can safely go on my friend, you are free! Yes, you heard right, the cops just let you go without punishing the offender (they could have apologized for the rumpled mustang). In short, nonsense, it turns out that "Caught and not guilty"... A defect.

Races - there are a lot of them here, there is a sprint, a ring, for a while, in general, everything that was in the previous parts. The only thing, the race seemed to me monotonous and boring. They last a maximum of 5 minutes, and the boss races had to be done in several stages, as in NFS: Most Wanted 2005th year.

Having played enough of my career, I go into multiplayer frustrated. And lo and behold, that's what this game was created for! You can have fun with your friends all day, you can also drive with them, drive with a real person is much more interesting than with a bot - a person is unpredictable. I'm sure you will love the multiplayer.

The city in the game is big, but I remembered it for 3 days of the game, I could easily get to the car I needed without a radar. The graphics and effects are at a height, the sun is blinding almost as in reality, the wet asphalt is also made realistically, the damage to the car is well worked out. In short, there are no problems with this, except that day and night change very quickly, but you can get used to it. On the PC there is a problem with control, the car turns too sharply, but in principle you can get used to it or connect a joystick. On the steering wheel, the controls are generally perfect. There are no control problems on consoles. Soundtrack, I liked it, but in the old MW it was better, in general it had the best sound of all parts, but that's a matter of taste.

Summarizing Need For Speed: Most Wanted (2012), I want to say that you do not need to immediately delete it from your console or PC, everyone will find in it something for themselves (for example, like me - multiplayer), you play it for another hour, and only then evaluate the game. New Most Wanted turned out to be good enough, despite all the bad things in it. It is worthy of the good reviews it received from critics. In short, what I'm telling you, just take it and play it yourself.

Need for speed… How much in this word… it was… five years ago. Now Need for speed has become synonymous with how not have to do races. Show-off, pretentiousness, hackneyed cliches - all this is completely ingrained in the last games of the series. AND Most Wanted (2012) another confirmation of this.

Surprisingly, the authors Hot Pursuit (2010) failed to make energetic long-term races of 20 kilometers and spectacular hot pursuits with explosions and dozens of disabled police cars. Everything the player gets from Most Wanted (2012), limited to dull races with "ketchup" and harsh cops, from which it is almost impossible to get away.

Of course, it cannot be said that the game failed as Undercover, with which many compare her, but the cut potential drives the player into a sleepy kingdom of boring races. After hot and dynamic Hot Pursuit (2010), Criterion was simply required to transfer all the driving and beautiful supercars to the streets, spicing up the races with spectacular smashing of police cars. Alas, the developers have abandoned the recklessness towards realism, but who needs it in a racing arcade?

We want to have fun, smash cops' cars driving through exploding gas stations, gawk at beautiful fashion models, beat pondering street racers on long tracks, and run tuned supercars. This is the point of the series Need for speed since Underground. Having tried The run and Most Wanted (2012) there is a feeling that developers never play the games they do. Otherwise, they would have shot themselves from the boredom that reigns on the streets of Fairhaven.

Gameplay

Perhaps it is difficult to call a game a race if it does not have a garage and car repair shops. But, in the case of Most Wanted (2012), Easy Drive is exactly the innovation that deserves praise. Quick access to cars and races, tuning and tuning cars right from the game are definitely what gets rid of the routine. We wanted to change the car - we pressed a couple of buttons. Need more agility instead of power? Nothing complicated, we opened three or four menus and voila!

Driving cars is similar to what it was in Hot Pursuit 2010but takes some getting used to. However, cars from Porsche, Ford and a number of other concerns can be described as "sliding brick". The developers need to fix this misunderstanding with the very first patch, otherwise the game will simply be unbalanced.

And now about the bad. Who ever thought of leaving screensavers with accidents? No, seriously, you are flying at a speed of ... 50 km / h and you are slightly caught overboard by a neighboring car. WOMAN! BREATHING-BREATHING! CRASH! They show a five-hour video, and a bunch of obscenities pouring into the game and the heads of the developers. A completely useless feature that bends gamers for three games in a row. Really, in three years it was impossible to understand that such things only interfere with comfortable play, and screensavers should be made for more colorful events.

Police races don't make sense at all ... or else Criterion relied on sadomasochists to design the regime. The thing is, there are no destructible gas stations, bakeries or TV towers in the game. It is very difficult to get away from the police, there is nowhere to hide (security zones have also been removed), so if a horde of cops is chasing you, get ready for ... nothing. Have you been caught? Don't give a damn! Nobody is going to arrest and put in jail, or confiscate cars. Apparently this is how the races with the police look in the Criterion view.

Too clever with graphic effects. The sun is shining so brightly that you can't see anything at all. Fountains of spray and dust from under the wheels of rivals also completely block the view. The dynamic change of day and night happens so quickly that you will not have time to understand anything. It seemed like it was only morning, and already evening.

Now imagine what happens when three factors coincide: a tiring race with the police, blinding, an accident. And that's all, you are caught. Well, or, at least, lost half of the buzz that was before the accident.

The size of the game world is also not satisfactory: it can be memorized in a couple of days. The situation is saved by the fact that the design of locations is not limited to curbs and railings, so that you can go in almost any direction. If it was at least twice as large, with long highways and highways, then only for this one could put five points for the whole game.

Now about the races. There are quite a few of them and they are very high quality. The main disadvantage is their transience. Three, maybe five minutes, and you finish. And races with bosses generally had to be done in several stages. The end of a long competitive stage gives much more pleasure than a fleeting victory over another "street racer".

The only salvation for a player deprived of multiplayer is to ride around the city and just enjoy driving. It is in this Most Wanted (2012) most of all similar to its street roots.

The plot in the game is completely absent, and the developers spent all the creativity to make colorful screensavers before the Most Wanted races. Well, was it really impossible to repeat the story that was in the original NFS: Most Wanted? Anything would be more interesting, otherwise everything depends on the races and arrivals. And without photo models Need for speed doesn't look like an expensive game.

Multiplayer

The multiplayer mode is fun. 12 people set the heat on the entire gaming environment, so the game is in real chaos. The list of modes available in free online play will appeal to the most demanding players. Among them you will find sprints, race in a circle, arcade "jump highest" and so on. Everything looks like this: we drove the race, went to the next task, shoved and knocked out other players along the way, gathered at the point, started a new competition.

Multiplayer may well tighten, especially since real players are much more cunning than computer ones. On the other hand, as soon as you get tired of sausage other players (and sometimes the game resembles a boxing ring, not a race), you want something a little more relaxed. Alas, you will not see calm races, although this should have been foreseen, because not everyone likes the gameplay DiRT: Showdown.

Graphics and performance

To the delight of many players, the updated Chameleon Engine produces a normal, modern picture. And everything would be perfect if the developers hadn't been too clever with the effects and optimized the game for PC. Long load times, sudden drops in FPS, brakes even on powerful computers ... but don't worry, you yourself turn the settings down to a minimum, if only this f% @ th flashlight blinded a little less.

General conclusion

Need For Speed: Most Wanted (2012) came out with a couple of very nasty jambs that you might have read about earlier. Criterion should fix them in the next updates and then the game will be really good. It is likely that you will not like the game at first. To get a feel for its essence, you need to complete the game, as well as drive in multiplayer. Only then will you understand whether it will fit Most Wanted (2012) for you or not.

  • Forty-three cars of different parameters. To replenish the car fleet with them, you need to find them in the city - they can meet in the most unexpected places. Sometimes you have to complete a certain mission in order to get admission to a particular car;
  • The network game makes it possible to measure strength not only with computer opponents, but also with real ones;
  • Greater freedom of action - travel around the city, completing additional missions, or focus on completing the main story;
  • Unmatched graphics - the developers tried to work out everything with high quality, from cars to buildings and other details of the landscape.

Gameplay

During the passage of "Need for Speed: Most Wanted" the gamer will have to participate in dozens of races. You can just drive around the city, perform various stunts and get experience points for this. But it is advisable to drive carefully (unless the task does not involve breaking the rules), because a collision, driving in the oncoming lane or at a red traffic light is punishable. The police will chase the hero. You need to change the car to get rid of the chase. Otherwise, the status of the chase will increase - the best forces of the city police will be sent to the rescue. They will block roads, install spikes, or even throw them out of a special van so that the rider damages the wheels and cannot accelerate or maneuver. Finding cars in unexpected places, you can enrich your car fleet with them. However, to get some, you have to gain a certain rating.

Plot overview

The script itself, of course, consists of races. To complete the story missions, the player must find a place where illegal races are held. If he is being chased by the police for a violation, then he will not be able to take part in the race - first he will have to get rid of the tail. But then you can compete with the enemy in speed, maneuverability and reaction. After overtaking the enemy, you need to smash his car with several powerful blows. So you can get not only a new car in the collection, but also certain improvements that allow you to increase the maneuverability, handling or speed of the car. Dozens of races combined with many additional tasks make the passage really exciting.

The most ambitious racing game of the year, the new part of the regular series Need for Speed: Most Wanted 2012, surprisingly, turned out to be not perfect as many players wanted to see it. This is evidenced by the flood of angry reviews on the first day of sales. But is it really so, you will learn from this review.

Most wanted

Developer: Criterion Games Genre: Arcade Racing Release Date: November 30, 2012 Official Site: ea.com Similar Games: NFS Hot Pursuit (2010), Burnout Paradise, Driver: San Francisco

The most important thing to understand when starting a new NFSis not a remake of the great 2005 game. Have Criterion this time it was just a quality mixture of their favorite series Burnout and a large open city from the original Most Wanted... And that's it! More than the name, these two games do not have anything in common. The new product is actually much more recognizable from the excellent Driver san francisco!

Yes, yes, it was from there that the developers dragged the idea of \u200b\u200ba quick change of cars, even a similar physical model. But at the same time they forgot about such things as a garage, tuning and an interesting plot. There are only supercars and races left! And, of course, it is tailored to the online mode. Drive in a new Need for speed especially interesting together with friends or just with rivals. But you shouldn't even think about customizing a car and other delights of the era Underground.

What's the new Most Wanted about?

The usual single player campaign as such is not here. The authors make it possible to ride anywhere and in any way in the city, the familiar annoying policemen immediately appear. For each car, you will find, in fact, the same set of tracks. There is a difference in the tracks, but since there is only one city, it is very small. The scenario in this case is extremely simple: you need to overtake a dozen cool racers in fast cars to become the "most wanted" one.

But there is no story, no hero, nothing tangible. Criterion-vtsy work according to the same scheme: here's a playground for you, here's a solid car fleet, some kind of destruction system, beautiful accidents, of course. And drive around this metropolis as you please! Entertain yourself.

Features:

Another difference is the funny video inserts, sometimes reminiscent of some kind of madman's delirium. Especially in missions with the police, where you have to get away from the chase. Cops in these videos soar into the air, form ridiculous geometric shapes ... in general, some kind of surrealism. Premium cars from the new roster Most Wanted also every time they appear in some kind of fabulous form, one feast for the eyes!

It is immediately obvious that the designers gave their best, the only trouble was that there was no clear course. What is all this for, why, what is the general connection of the main racer with these poltergeists and all the other madmen on supercars. Nothing is explained. Well, don't, after all, the new one has a very bad picture.

Visually

Looks new NFS worthy. No Frostbite engine here, but the one that worked in Hot pursuit... It has been properly polished, so now Most Wantedcan load even the most advanced system. Of course, it is impossible to play with the brakes, so you should immediately set the settings through the video card driver. Some particularly striking effects will disappear, but there will be a great picture and a decent frame rate.

The cars are very well detailed, the city is well designed, and in principle looks like the most beautiful racing game at the moment. Optimization is just a matter of time, developers always have problems with this. Unfortunately, in contrast to the luscious graphics, the soundtrack is not so good. He is very calm, even too calm, so the game lacks drive, despite the still best implementation of supercar racing.

Game process:

The most important component of any game in a new NFS, in spite of everything, at a level unattainable for competitors. And this is not surprising, because in Most Wanted 2012 there is everything for which we like all the previous games of the series Burnout and Need for speed... The feeling of breakneck speeds, an impressive fleet of licensed cars that can be partially beaten, annoying cops, a bunch of all kinds of jumps, ramps, heavy traffic.

The game gives such a drive that has never been in any Forzaor some other console race. There are other solid series, like Project gothan racing... But Need for speedalways, regardless of disappointments in the possibilities of tuning, monotonous tracks and arcade, it still rivets to the monitor for long hours. Have EA there is some special recipe: many players scold everything in their stampings, but every time a multi-million audience provides wild sales. And then in spite of everything he praises the next Need for speed.

Conclusion:

No exception, but also a great blend of the best racing series of recent years. Here's a big city for exploration, stunts, hellish pursuits with "charged" opponents and rich Autolog capabilities. In multiplayer, all the delights of the new NFSlike two years ago in HP (2010)... The game has obvious drawbacks (music, tight control, lack of motivation for passing, because the cars are already placed on the map). But there are too many strengths to claim that Criterionthis time they failed. Cope, and how!
