Character transfer to PC in GTA 5. Character transfer GTA V (GTA Online) on Steam

  • 28.05.2020
In 2013, a bug was noticed in the game that makes it look like the character has been deleted. Probably due to some errors on the server side, the player could not see his character. However, they have not been removed. As a solution, it is proposed to wait, but in no case do not create a new character, otherwise he will “overwrite” an existing one.

October 10 given error has been fixed with a patch. However, it was not possible to completely eliminate the problem, and occasionally it appears.

October 11, 2013 developers Rockstar Games confirmed that some characters were lost and cannot be restored. All players who created new characters in October were compensated in game currency.

How to prevent character deletion

Rockstar has compiled a guide for those players who are experiencing a missing character. Following these tips will avoid its removal:

1. In no case do not create a new character;
2. Try to enter the scene mode;
3. Sign in GTA Online through the main menu.

Additional instructions:
1. When receiving a message about the unavailability of servers, do not click “retry” for a long time;
2. Be aware of the no-save function: if a player has created a character for a temporary game without the ability to save, no information about this character will be saved, even the server is fully ready. To save your progress, you must use the appropriate option.

Character Transfer

We recently took a look at how the previous year went for GTA Online, highlighting the best moments like the release of The Doomsday Heist or the closure of some hacking programs. Now, as promised, we take a look at the less joyful pages of 2017.

Luckily, this list will be shorter, as in 2017 GTA has generally been on a roll and had few issues. The previous one was much more difficult due to problems with hackers and the destruction of counterfeit money.

2017 for GTA turned out to be very successful

Even so, there have been a couple of unfortunate events in the past 12 months. What caused the excitement this time?

Controversial situation aroundOpen IV

GTA 5 had some serious issues with mods. Although Rockstar has officially stated that they don't mind mods made for single player as long as they don't affect online. In addition, the game has a huge community of modders. However, their status has always remained unclear.

Due to the fact that the term is regularly misused, in Online mods and modders have come to be seen as hacks and hackers, although there is a huge difference between the two.

As a result of numerous attempts by developers to fight hackers, modders suffered along the way. Since many of the hacks were based on the same methods and manipulations as mods, patches aimed at "healing" online often resulted in unplayable mods in single player.

Rockstar has officially stated that they are not opposed to mods made for single player, as long as they do not concern online.

It's good that these changes were always rolled back in such cases.

The situation was unstable, but large modification projects still existed. Moreover, almost all authors used the popular OpenIV program for this. As the name implies, it was originally created back in the days of GTA 4 and was later updated to work with the fifth part.

With such a solid history of use, it has been the most popular modding tool in the community. So when the OpenIV team received the dissolution order from Take-Two's lawyers, it was a blow.

This was followed by a huge "response" from the fans. GTA 5 was inundated with negative reviews on Steam, and after that a petition arose calling for OpenIV to be saved. In the end, the protests worked and OpenIV was updated again. She is still working.

The story ended well, but it was still one of the most annoying pages for GTA in 2017.

Closing the character transfer service

In 2017, among other things, the final nail was driven into the coffin of GTA Online on PS3 and Xbox 360. It was on these platforms that GTA 5 was first released, and it was there that GTA Online saw the light of day. But alas, over time, the game has moved to more modern platforms like current generation consoles and PCs. It became obvious that the old versions would have to go.

For legacy consoles, DLC support ended much earlier. However, players could still port their characters to new platforms.

Rockstar has completely disabled character transfer to close loopholes for hackers

This allowed those who upgraded to the so-called "Enhanced Edition" to keep their progress in the game. There was no need to start over. Unfortunately, this feature also became a loophole for hackers. Current generation consoles haven't been hacked yet, but the old ones were filled with cheaters. One popular method was to take a character with old version, use hacks to accrue huge money, and then transfer it to a new one.

In 2017, Rockstar completely turned off the ability to transfer the character in order to step into the future and get rid of this annoying gap in the game's protection. Many of the users of older versions considered this decision dishonest. However, maintaining a help desk for the old architecture was no doubt expensive. In the end, it just brought more problems than benefits.

... And, in general, these are all the failures of 2017. Fortunately, the past year will definitely be remembered with joy thanks to the huge amount of DLC. Any misunderstandings will be forgotten. There were two of them, one was eventually sorted out, and the other was inevitable. We hope 2018 will be at least as cool, and maybe even better!
