It's time to take stock of the past 2016. Especially for Coop-Land users, our editorial staff, as it happens from year to year, has prepared top cooperative games with a focus on. Plus a couple of bonus games for our taste.

10th place


Opens our golden parade, leaving behind many equally high quality games. Created by an American indie studio and inspired by the hardcore series, the game offers an original take on genres.

From the outside, minimalistic and even light, the game is overly complex, which is revealed during the gameplay. Enemies have a lot of health, and the hero knows how to lose all accumulated things at his death. The game is painted by the proposed co-op for four people, which tends to complicate the gameplay with an increase in the squad.

For a pleasant visual style and deceptive appearance, he gets what he deserves tenth place among the best co-op games of 2016.

9th place

It received the lion's share of the votes in and was well appreciated by our editors, unfortunately, did not show the players a new cooperative or multiplayer experience, even despite the high-quality gameplay transformations and fundamental changes in the plot.

The cooperative mode, it seems, was created for show and does not carry any individual features with it. It is presented in the form of a joint passage of minor missions such as capture or break-in, and this is only for two people. It should be noted that in such a rich setting it would be possible to make an interesting and versatile cooperative mode corresponding to the loud name, but this opportunity was simply ignored.

8th place

The genre of post-apocalyptic survival with a harsh zombie theme has not gone out of fashion, and serves as a clear confirmation of this. After going through a tough annual beta test, the game has reached release with a bunch of nice new features: full-fledged co-op, updated locations and a new crafting system.

The introduced cooperative mode will allow players to jointly engage in the construction of bases, the study of the game map and real survival in a zombie apocalypse. Despite the declared convenience, the network aspect has one unpleasant property: the promised maximum number of players - 16 people - can only be achieved through connecting to a common host of four groups that are in mode.

But even with such conventions, it is a good cooperative game, for which he receives eighth place our rating.

7th place


The best farming simulator in existence has been highly acclaimed in the series: the fan base has grown, and the gameplay has become in demand among a wide range of fans of this genre. So, he confidently entered our top co-op games, leaving behind a dozen boring shooters and sandboxes.

A specific multiplayer mode, which is not based on any competitive nature, will allow ten players to create a collective farm: jointly rent land, engage in plowing and construction, and get carried away with crop and livestock farming. It would seem that such a passive gameplay is only discouraging, but in fact, the massiveness of different functions gives the player great interest and motivation.

For the variety of in-game elements and some originality it takes seventh place our cooperative chart.

6th place

Heavy Lancer, equipped with a chainsaw and emitting a continuous hum, brings to mind nostalgic memories of the fun days spent madly behind the first. But only for a moment, because the world must be saved again, this time - to the son of Marcus, in a traditionally bloody and epic one.

There are several cooperative modes in the game: one is a joint passage of the storyline, the second, called the Horde, invites players to fend off the constantly growing waves of the enemy. Both modes are tied to the team interaction of five people and are set to complicate the gameplay: the larger the squad, the smarter the enemy becomes.

For the consistency of the series and good multiplayer modes, it takes sixth place our rating.

5th place

2016 was not complete without fantasy Rogue-RPGs, gameplay similar to or. Fortunately, the presented game turned out to be of really high quality and even adored by fans of this genre: starting from the release itself, it gets good marks from the players and the press.

The proposed co-op for four people fits perfectly with the storyline, revealing in detail the characters and their features - this creates motivation to conquer the cruel game world in the company of friends. Also of interest is the division of characters into classes, in the base state there are six of them. Customizable skills and long development branches provide the ability to customize your profile, which greatly hones cooperative interactions.

4th place

Created by a small group of enthusiasts from Lince Works, the Spanish stealth action game brings the player a pleasant atmosphere of an oriental tale, mixing bright red blood, black night and Japanese folklore in its setting. This palette has put one of the most colorful cooperative games of the outgoing year.

The visual style, characterized by highlighted lines and contrasts, perfectly complements the two-person co-op. The gameplay mode does not offer anything new: the players remain with the same range of abilities, and the enemies do not become smarter. But in the process, ways of joint interaction are revealed, implicit and hidden in single-player mode - they add variety and interest to the game.

Editor's Choice

According to our editors, the title of the best cooperative game of 2016 deserves a small, simple, but painfully exciting, offering a joint story passage for four people in a mode.

Architecturally, the game does not have any complex elements, its principle is simple and clear. But the gameplay process is hardcore and even hostile towards the player, which is not at all a minus in the cooperative passage. High speeds, tons of tasks and lack of time - all this combined makes the gameplay fun and even funny.

All running around is harmoniously complemented by locations and conditions of their passage. On the large storyline map, the main places appear, from which even goosebumps run: the vents of volcanoes, pirate ships, lost islands, long highways, ice blocks - each location determines a certain number of conditions. So, at sea it feels sickly, and the ice is really slippery.

After playing many hours, our editorial office confidently declares: it is the dominant, but underestimated contender for the place of the best cooperative game of the past 2016.

3rd place

Bald Luo Wang, diligently copying the image of a charismatic and brutal hero, judging by the high ratings of our gaming community, still fell in love and was accepted. His bloody brutality, cold skill and sarcastic remarks placed in the top three co-op games.

The sequel to the relatively disastrous Shadow Warrior of 2013, the game has literally hit the top-notch ratings through some gameplay and story transformations. So, the locations, the arsenal, the enemies and the character himself fell under a minor alteration: the map became larger and brighter, the weapons acquired new trash devices, the hellish creatures clearly diversified and multiplied, and the hero learned new tricks, became more accurate and honed his black humor.

2nd place

Tom Clancy's plot, as usual full of ideas about political conspiracies and overflowing with the author's thought about a difficult alternative reality, placed the players in a snowy and dead New York, broken by a severe pandemic. This post-apocalyptic setting came to the liking of the players and appeared in our top.

The game world, locally divided into PvE and PvP zones, provides players with a huge springboard for cooperative and competitive gameplay. Actors - agents - regularly receive various kinds of assignments, but often it all boils down to a punitive sweep of a certain place. Whole factions of bandits, the so-called cleaners, mercenaries and similar assassins of various stripes, act as enemies.

But the boring gameplay in words turns into a fun joint company with friends. A small group can carry out raids, explore locations, complete quests and, what is most fun, conquer the Dark Zone dominated by PvP. In such multiplayer operations, you can achieve maximum team cohesion, using not only high-tech gadgets, but also joint interaction tactics to defeat other players.

| Dark Souls 3 featured a bold, unquestioning and fan-bitter point in the Dark Souls storyline.

The gameplay has undergone some qualitative changes, to which fans of the series reacted positively. The game has become more dynamic - this was facilitated by the introduction of new dexterous classes, an increase in the speed of attack and movement, the development of an even greater dependence of the combat on the location. So, along with the dynamics, the difficulty increased: the bosses became hardened, their weapons sharpened, and the main character, on the contrary, weakened.

But there is a way out of this seemingly hopeless situation, and it lies in the co-op, which is familiar to the series. The dark dungeons are illuminated with fiery clues, and from time to time the souls of the dead run in strange and doubtful alleys, warning of the impending danger. The idyll is complemented by phantoms who, at the call of the artifact, come to the rescue in an unequal battle with some bloodthirsty dragon. This kind of multiplayer experience remains symbolic and enjoyable for any Dark Souls fan.

Bonus: the ugly duckling

In 2016, a game was released that has great potential in the implementation of a cooperative company, but, unfortunately, sadly failed due to the lack of some of the promised aspects and an outrageously small number of story and cooperative missions.

Gradually, the times are leaving when games were supposed to be a purely single passage. Developers are increasingly introducing cooperative modes that make projects much more fun. Unless you're a committed sociopath, it's always more fun to play together, even if the shooter or strategy itself is mediocre. Here are the games that work best for co-op.

Left 4 dead

The shooter from the authors of the Half-Life series in 2008 rocked the genre of the then rare co-op games. Developers at Turtle Rock Studios, then not yet part of Valve, taught people how to play as a team. If the four players scattered in all directions and did not help each other, nothing good came out: the heroes died again and again. But as soon as they rallied and began to act together, any difficulties were on the shoulder.

The backstory of Left 4 Dead is trivial: a virus has spread across the United States that turns people into zombies. The four survivors make their way through the infected hordes to the evacuation point. There are a phenomenal number of zombies - there are naturally hundreds of them, and the shooting is carried out non-stop. At the same time, Left 4 Dead is not like "meat" shooters like Painkiller or Doom. You need to use tactics, choose weapons wisely and plan ahead. At the end of some levels, it is necessary to survive a wave of enemies: a zombie rod from all sides, a fire blazes due to broken Molotov cocktails, a piece of concrete slab is flying right at you - this was announced by the strongest boss "Tank".

Left 4 Dead gives a storm of emotions in a cooperative passage, without a close-knit team you shouldn't even start the game. The sequel, released just a year later, brought new enemies and melee weapons.

Gears of war

The brutal action movie was originally exclusive to the Xbox 360, and then appeared on the PC. The 2015 HD re-release of the Ultimate Edition for Xbox One and PCs followed. In total, there were three numbered parts and one branch (Judgment), Gears of War 4 is now in development. This is one of the cooperative games that is interesting to play on your own, but still the cooperative mode adds the necessary spice. There are also network matches in which you cannot survive without joint action. The "Horde" matches were especially successful, where you need to survive as many waves of opponents as possible.

Gears of War's synopsis is grim: scientists have discovered a new energy source on the planet Sera. Fierce battles began against local inhabitants - Locust. The disgusting creatures quickly seized the initiative in the war and began to destroy humanity. A detachment of blockheads, whose biceps are as thick as a sequoia, took an impressive weapon and went to drive the Locust underground, from where it got out.

The game brought several innovations to the shooter genre. First, there was an interesting "trick" with reloading weapons: if you press the button in time, the hero will change the magazine in a second, if you do not have time to do this, he will fiddle with the gun for a long time, sometimes expressing himself with gusto. Secondly, the gameplay with positional gunfights became popular after Gears of War. And we cannot fail to mention the under-barrel chainsaw for close combat - the effect of it exceeds any expectations.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Siege

In the new part of Rainbow Six, the developers have shaken up the series properly. The single player campaign has been removed, the game retained only the essence of the original books by Tom Clancy about the Rainbow Six squad. There are special forces, the most elite of all the elite, and terrorists who provide regular employment for the security forces. Scoundrels are constantly taking over something, mining buildings or holding hostages. Nice guys have to ruin their plans - just like in Hollywood action movies.

Siege initially seemed like a controversial move for the series, but it ended up being one of the best parts. The developers put tactical freedom in the first place, and they paid off. Both terrorists and special forces have almost limitless possibilities: you can set traps at every step, block doors and windows, blow up a wall or floor, and catch enemies by surprise. In cooperative mode, you are against a couple of dozen opponents. There are no problems with them on easy and medium difficulty, but having set the maximum level, be ready for a real test of your skills.

Dying light

The Polish action game looks like a combination of Left 4 Dead and Mirror's Edge. The city is filled with zombies, it is unsafe to walk the streets, so it is most convenient to move on the roofs of houses. Fortunately, our hero is a young and mobile parkour enthusiast. He jumps quite dexterously, and if necessary, he can quickly escape from the crowd of opponents.

The joint passage had to be in place, but the implementation could have been a little better. For example, in the plot videos there is no division into different characters: all players look at what is happening through the eyes of the same hero. With this exception, there are no complaints. Companions make hand-to-hand combat easier, zombies can be distracted so that another person can unlock the door, and so on. Dying Light is a quality action game for both single player and cooperative play.

Borderlands 1-2

The series stands out for its excellent style and rather good humor. While most games are done "with serious cabbage soup," Gearbox Software offers a cartoonish style in a crazy world. It's kind of an interactive version of Mad Max, but even Max Borderlands would seem unnecessarily crazy.

A cooperative of up to four people is supported. Joint passage will have especially to the place when meeting with bosses. They are strong, tenacious and are extremely reluctant to go to the local Valhalla. Ordinary opponents take in numbers, it is usually easy to interrupt them, but sometimes difficult moments are encountered. All because of RPG elements: as in the recent Tom Clancy's The Division, a lot here depends not on your accuracy, but on the level of the enemy. However, role-playing moments do not interfere too much.

Due to the weak storyline and the empty world, Borderlands solo playthrough can seem boring. If friends join the game, the situation will change dramatically. Missions will become more fun, and there is always something to do in the wasteland: either go to the cave for equipment, or go on a notoriously difficult task.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3

The cooperative passage in such an action movie is more necessary for show, although the joint modes turned out to be surprisingly interesting. The storyline campaign once again tells about the near future, where a war is being waged, and robots and fighters with enhanced abilities are fighting on the battlefield. Whoever did not share something with someone - questions so insignificant for the game that everyone has long come to terms with the nonsense that the scriptwriters write.

But the action every year turns out to be good, and if suddenly a single passage is tired, then the cooperative will improve the situation. The levels are designed for cooperative play, they are large and involve frequent changes in tactics. Since enemies, as before, appear as if out of nowhere and do not end, the help of friends is very useful. In addition, although it is empty, it is still a very entertaining thriller. If it weren't for the weak story modes of Battlefield, this game would be on our list - it's just that the campaigns there are even worse, but the multiplayer is the benchmark.

Far cry 4

The game was criticized for the fact that it is not much different from Far Cry 3 - only the setting is different here. Nevertheless, Ubisoft has made a great shooter that is still fun to play. Co-op play is not available for the story campaign, and otherwise there are no restrictions on co-op.

In addition to the usual zombies, which can be killed in packs of 20, there are also bosses that you have to tinker with. There are many different cards in the game, making the passage varied.

8. Dead Island

The development of this game took over five years, but still the game came out and turned out to be very good. Good plot, beautiful graphics, enemies are literally dismembered into pieces. The detailing is also pleasing. The game looks almost like a well-made movie, where the actors are the players.

There are several characters in the game, and each of them has its own characteristics - someone shoots better, and someone fights. They won't give us a good shot - there are not so many cartridges. But hand-to-hand combat - please. If you want - hit with an oar, if you want - with a bat.

You can play the game alone and with friends. The second option, of course, is much more interesting and fun.

7. Gears of War: judgment

In fourth place is one of the best exclusives from Microsoft.

The most insidious and beautiful game of Bill's corporation. A lot of weapons and meat, a very good plot. We won't even talk about multiplayer - it turned out just fine. In our opinion, this is the best part of the Gears of War series, especially in terms of multiplayer.

Well, if you are not a fan of online battles, we recommend playing the first two parts of the series - there is the best storyline.

6. Portal 2

In a cooperative Portal 2 we are waiting for the same puzzles as in the single player game. But they will be even more complex and unpredictable. Your partner has a portal cannon.

The downside to Portal 2 is that the co-op is only for two people. However, more is not required.
