→ Octopus (Squid): description, ID, screenshots, etc.

Octopus is an eight-armed creature that appears in water. Octopus is always friendly to the player, like other passive mobs. It can only be found in water above 45 and below 63, spawns in all biomes.

Appearance

Octopuses have 8 limbs, are dark in color and have teeth that are located on the bottom of their head. Like other mobs, they have eyes, but unusual. Their eyes are slightly slanted. And although in the game they are called squid (Squid), they are more like octopuses.

Using

After killing an octopus, 1-3 inkbags will drop from it, which are used to create black dye. Which in turn is used with many items: leather armor, wool, clay, sheep, etc.

Also with an ink bag and bone meal dark gray and light gray dyes are crafted, and when using a bag with a feather and a book you can get new item Pen with a book.

Behavior, fight

As they move, the octopuses open and close their tentacles, so they push off and move. They constantly swim around one point, and when they see the player, they begin to float away from him. The octopuses will not start attacking the GG under any circumstances.

In early versions on land, octopuses simply could not move, but now on land they choke and die. They, like other land mobs, take damage and burn in the sun, but unlike them, octopuses can swim.

Octopuses cannot swim in lava, even if given a fire resistance slot. In this case, in the lava they will feel the same as on the shore and will die.

Unlike other mobs, octopuses can swim upstream.

Farming

Although octopuses can swim upstream, they cannot swim upstream in a waterfall. Therefore, there is a simple way to "breed" octopuses: in the ocean or deep lake, dig a hole 8x8 in size and 3 cubes deep. Falling water into the hole (the same principle of a waterfall) will bring the squid right here. Here, with the help of complex funnels and channel systems, it is possible to bring the octopus to the "player's headquarters", where it is already possible to kill the eight-legged one.

  • Octopus is the first and so far the only water mob.
  • The octopus takes no damage when you attack its tentacles.
  • Octopuses are the first passive mobs that spawn at any light level and without grass.
  • During the loading of the world, all squids are turned by their tentacles to the east.
  • Octopus is the only (apart from the bat) mob that does not breed.
  • It is possible that the octopus takes damage when it falls.
  • The octopus (like the ocelot and the bat) can disappear.

1.2. Octopuses live in water, at great depths, often in groups of several individuals (2-5). They spawn at any difficulty level and do not attack the player under any circumstances, like other friendly mobs. The only practical benefit of octopuses is to obtain ink sacs.

After 1.4.4, octopuses cannot survive out of the water and will suffocate when thrown ashore.

Behavior

Octopuses swim aimlessly, trying to find themselves near the bottom of the reservoir in which they find themselves. If the depth of the reservoir in which the octopus turned out to be equal to 1 block, then some parts of this mob will be above the water. One of these cases is demonstrated in this video. If the octopus collides with the shore, it will make a noise similar to that produced by ground mobs when colliding with blocks. When the octopus moves underwater, just like when the player attacks it, its tentacles close and open. Octopuses will not attack the player, even if he starts attacking them.

Spawn

Octopuses spawn in water at any depth, they can spawn both in the source block and in the stream. The octopus can theoretically appear in a 1x1x1 pool, although the likelihood of this is extremely small. The lighting level doesn't matter.

A prerequisite is the presence of a transparent block directly above the block of water selected for spawning - such as another block of water, air, glass, ice, and others. Octopuses will not spawn in a 1 block deep pool with a rock on top.

The reason for the known difficulty in breeding octopuses is the low spawn rate of aquatic inhabitants - it is three times lower than that of land animals and fourteen times less than that of monsters. Maximum amount octopuses, in which the game will try to spawn them more - 5.7 for each player. This means that in singleplayer, after the appearance of six octopuses, the spawn can completely stop before they die / despawn. However, up to six octopuses per chunk can appear on the map at a time, if each randomly chosen spawn spot falls into a suitable block. Otherwise, the same rules apply as for other groups of mobs - the spawn area is a square area of \u200b\u200b17x17 chunks around the player, excluding blocks at a distance of up to 24 meters from the player.

Facts

  • It is impossible to catch the octopus with a fishing rod and pull it out of the water in this way.
  • When out of water, they are motionless (only tentacles move), but do not die (die since version 1.4.4pre).
  • They have 8 tentacles.
  • Due to the error, octopuses up to 1.4.4 could swim out of water and even in the air. Since version 1.4.4, octopuses die outside the water.
  • Previously, octopuses could not surface, but only sank. After the Beta 1.3 update, they can float in three dimensions.
  • When receiving damage, the octopus can rise or fall by 1/3 - 1/2 of the block height.
  • While dying, they do not fall to one side, but continue to "swim" for about a second, then disappear.
  • Drifting quietly on a boat or just being nearby, you can hear the rustle of octopuses touching the bottom.
  • Despite the presence of a large toothy mouth, they do not attack the player.
  • Sometimes it can appear in underground lakes.
  • Swimming up to the surface of the water is a danger to the boat.
  • Octopuses and bats are the only friendly mobs that cannot reproduce.

Hi guys! Today I would like to please with the news about animals. There was information that soon, in the pocket minecraft versions squid will appear. Unfortunately, the exact date has not yet been announced, but most likely it depends on how easy it is to implement them into the game. We're not sure the squid will be added in version 0.9.0, but there is a huge chance that these aquatic animals will be introduced closer to version 1.0.0 later this year.

What squids will be in Minecraft Pocket Edition?

As you know, in the PC version of the game, squids are the only aquatic animals. Despite their intimidating appearance, they are friendly and do not attack players. Here is a screenshot of a squid from the PC version of Minecraft.

What do squids do?

They usually just swim in the water, often in small groups. They are difficult to find at great depths, since they are usually found almost on the surface, which makes it very easy to find them, having noticed a small part of the body of water.

What can you get from squid?

After killing the squid, you will receive an ink bag that is used to craft some items. Also, the ink sac is a black dye.

When should squid appear in PE?
