After abandoning the browser platform, the developers managed to carry out a total upgrade of everything and everyone, which made it possible to show a decent result in the form of a completely new game... It is based on the Unity 3D engine and develops in parallel with the minor version, inheriting from its predecessor many of the community's favorite parts.

Open beta testing began in September last year, and since then has received a number of major updates that significantly diversify and improve the gameplay. The gameplay will not cause difficulties even for the greenest beginners: two teams of tankers get on random map and collide with each other. On this moment there are seven different maps available, the tactics of combat on which are radically different. For example, in the "Sandbox" there is a tank at a glance almost anywhere, and there is absolutely nowhere to hide. Therefore, the number of frags is off scale here. The Rio map has a vast territory and difficult terrain where sniper tanks can take advantageous position and keep the defensive with a good chance of success.

You can fight in three modes: battle against everyone, team battle and capture the flag. The most fun mode seemed to us against everyone, where physically you do not have time to draw virtual stars on the hull for the number of opponents hit - knocking out 35 tanks in a battle is considered a common thing here. The team battle mode differs only in the division into two opposing groups, which allows you to fill frags more meaningfully.

Separately, it should be said about the flag capture mode. In such battles, the true cohesion of the team is manifested, and you can also see the wonders of courage and heroism when an ally covers the flag carrier with his corps from crossfire, if only the task is completed and the enemy flag is successfully delivered to a safe place!

At the moment, there are eight maps available, although we, as newbies, managed to get into only the first three in the team battle mode. Experienced players have access to other modes in which you need to capture the flag or occupy and hold a certain point. On each territory there are special places where cargo is dropped from the air. Having picked up a dropped container, you can get various bonuses: from increased movement speed to increased attack or defense. These effects are visually displayed and give the technique a futuristic look.

Unlike other titles, upgrading the technique will not cause a headache for the user. Any vehicle consists of only two parts: a hull and a cannon, combinations of which make it possible to create about 70 different combat vehicles. Parts of tanks can be upgraded for special crystals, which are awarded for a successful battle. When upgraded, the characteristics increase: strength, acceleration, maximum speed, reload time, damage and much more.

More recently, the game received a large-scale update, as a result of which a system of modules appeared - special devices for improving the hulls that give additional combat properties to vehicles.

There are four types of them in total: reconnaissance, support, protection and special. Modules are created from various spare parts contained in containers, and they, in turn, can be obtained as rewards for battles or through the store. When assembled, the module receives the main ability, as well as up to ten percent of the random effect additionally. Unnecessary ones can be disassembled into parts, using them to assemble the following. In total, from one to five such wunderwafels can be inserted into a tank, and the distribution of types of modules depends on the hull. For example, "Hunter" has two slots for special and one slot for the other categories of modules, which open gradually with each new level.

According to our observations, the most popular module among players is invisibility, which allows you to feel confident on maps with capturing flags, and is also useful for tanks with guns that require a large rollback. We will give the title of the most unusual to the spider mine, which is indispensable for defending the base: in a narrow passage it is guaranteed to catch up with any enemy tank and if it does not kill it, it will severely cripple it. It is also worth mentioning the most accessible modules: activated protection, which for 20 seconds reduces all damage taken by half, and focus, which helps to fire much more accurately.

Thanks to the Unity 3D engine, the developers managed to create a modern and colorful picture, albeit quite demanding on computer resources. At the current stage of testing, there are not so many graphics settings: you can select the display quality, but there is no possibility to change the anti-aliasing, textures and other advanced parameters. Visually, the battles look attractive, and the drawing of the tanks is pleasing to the eye: it can be seen that the artists worked for a long time on each hull, highlighting the details and working out the contours.

I was a little confused by the physics, due to which tanks in collisions or falls do not look quite natural, as well as the monotonous textures of knocked out combat vehicles. On the other hand, this is an arcade game and it is simply unreasonable to demand excessive realism from the project.

Unlike the well-known tank shooters, there is no need to take into account a lot of nuances during a battle or calculate the probabilities of penetration, although, of course, there were some tactical elements. After the modules appeared, the game acquired a distinctive feature - a tank constructor. It has more possibilities for making the combat vehicle unique, compiling a specific build and mechanics that make the gameplay even more interesting.

There are no questions about the lighting either, everything looks very, very suitable. However, play on high settings unlikely to succeed if the hardware is not very powerful. But the developers still promise to work on the optimization, so it's not such a big problem.

The interface contains only the most basic functions, such as "go to the garage", "go to the list of your battles", "view the profile" and "settings", the menu of which for some reason opens only from the profile menu. The interface in the battle is also not very user-friendly. For some reason, the amount of supplies is displayed only when you press the tab, and the flag labels appear only in the upper right corner. Because of this, you may simply not notice the flag message, especially if you play without sound and lose the battle. The rest of the interface elements, on the contrary, are too large, and are somewhat reminiscent of games for smartphones.

Game process

There are no modifications usual for Tanks Online in the game, there is only a function similar to micro-pumping, which allows you to gradually improve all the characteristics of guns and hulls. Paints do not give any resist, and separate protective modules, as in Tanki Online, are not here (I hope they never will). All guns, paints and hulls are free. There are only two things that can be bought for crystals - micro-upgrades and supplies. The economy is not yet tuned in, and it is not yet clear how much all weapons will cost in the future and at what rank they will be opened.

Speaking of titles, there are much more of them here than in Tanki Online, but so far they do not affect anything. There are also no effects when getting a new rank. There are only five cards so far. There is no donation at this stage.

The game is still damp. In addition to the fact that the developers did a good job on the graphics and balance, the game has nothing more to boast about. But let's take into account the fact that Tanki X are only at the testing stage (albeit already open), and much more will be implemented in the future. We just have to wait and believe the creators that on release the game will be completely finalized, and it will be able to compete in the market.
