This mod can greatly compress the textures of various elements in WoT, in particular, equipment, trees and much more. Thanks to this, you can achieve a good increase in FPS, so that it becomes comfortable to play on a weak computer with outdated characteristics.

Like many others for the game, this one is in good demand among players. It will increase the frame rate per second by about 30%, which is pretty good. With the help of the presented mod, you will forget about the brakes in the tank simulator and will be able to play even on an old laptop.

If for some reason you do not have enough FPS gain after installing this modification, we also recommend using the WoT Tweaker utility, which offers to disable various effects. This will increase the frame rate when shooting with a lot of tanks. The program is available in a modpack from Jova and other collections.

How to set compressed textures:

1. Download the archive and unpack it to the root of the local disk (for example, in D: /, C: /);
2. Run the cmd file with the required textures or select all;
3. Wait for the completion of the installation process;
4. Go to the WoT_xx% folder and copy all files and folders from it to / WoT / res / packages /;
5. Open file autoinstall_.

According to the developers of World of Tanks themselves, up to forty percent of users run the game on computers that do not meet even the minimum system requirements. To help these players, modders create various performance optimizations, including compressed textures.

Textures in the game are responsible for the appearance of all game objects, more precisely, for how their surface looks. Basically, these are ordinary pictures, "cut" in a certain way for the correct imposition on the model of the tank and packed in a format suitable for the game. The measures taken by the game developers to optimize World of Tanks are cosmetic in nature, because they are faced with the task of preserving the appearance of the game. Accordingly, their methods of increasing fps in battle give an effect in the range of 10-20 percent, if you're lucky.

Modders are not bound by such restrictions, so they can offer more efficient methods, for example, compressing all textures in the game. The mods presented in this review allow you to compress all or some of the game textures by 50, 25 or 6 percent, which allows you to solve most of the performance problems.

For example, in the battle on Himmelsdorf, the textures of houses and other buildings were compressed to 6%. This optimization measure alone led to an increase in fps by 30 percent, in standard graphics mode, without disabling effects, etc.

The game, of course, looks less beautiful than before the compression procedure, but you enter the battle, first of all, to win.

Compressed textures are one of the most effective methods for increasing frame rates when playing on slower PCs.

Why do we need compressed textures for WoT?

Everything is very simple - the textures in the World of Tanks use the resources of the video card, if the volume of textures on the card exceeds the available memory, the game starts to slow down, which greatly affects the effectiveness of battles. But after installing textures compressed to 12%, resources are no longer required, which leads to an increase in FPS in the game.

The main drawback is a significant deterioration of the visual side of the game, the environment and tanks become "soapy", but what can you do for the sake of optimization, right? Let the game look worse, but the winrate will increase, because the brakes, which make aiming very difficult, will disappear.

You can also download special mods that improve the game interface, but made with an eye on optimization - this is.

In addition to compressed textures, you can use other methods of increasing FPS, for example, download, which turns off heavy visual effects like smoke and fire. Together with textures, this will give a great effect and it will be possible to play comfortably even on weak computers. In addition, the WoT settings also allow you to achieve greater optimization, pay special attention to the "Resolution of 3D rendering".

Installation

  • First go to World_of_Tanks \ res and make a backup copy of the packages folder so that you can return the old textures if you don't like the new option.
  • Download the archive below and extract its contents to World_of_Tanks \ res \ packages.
  • Then we run the autoinstall_.bat file, after opening which a window will appear with the process of repacking textures to a new quality. After closing the window, the installer is completed and you can enter the game.

Return Textures 2.0 (Build 0056)


Installation:

Replace files RET2_Textures_01.vdf, RET2_Textures_02.vdf with those in the 7z archives. Each archive is downloaded separately.
Note: Make backup copies of these files, so that later you do not accuse me of saying you did not like it, and you will have to reinstall the game.

Peculiarities:

The peculiarity of this collection is that it replaces the original textures of Return 2.0 (build 0056) with their compressed counterparts in the 512 format. Some textures were not converted! Some textures have been removed and the game will use the original textures instead. You will free up 2GB of free space using this assembly. Remove any lightweight texture patches you have: 512.vdf, etc.
RET2_Textures_OffGreen.vdf may not work with this version of the pack. Inside my pack of wdf files there is an updated RET2_Textures_OffGreen.wfd that will work fine with this pack of textures.

List of removed textures:

Loading screens of some locations. (the absence of which will not be particularly striking, instead of the inscription "loading" on a black background, there will be vanilla loading screens of locations: Khorinis, Rudniki, etc.).
Part of the cards. Maps will now be like the original, and not in 4k.
Certain armor (e.g. paladin armor - original textures will be used instead)
Some monster textures (e.g. orcs, trolls)

Again, the game will use the original textures of those files that were removed, so some of the monsters, armor, maps will look like the original.

All .vdf files were repackaged in 2030, now they will not fly off after the next hotfix. Just download the "Pack vdf files.rar" again.

Note: In B2.0 (0056) there are 6 paladin armor textures. I removed only one - the vanilla one, in fact, it was retexture. I did not delete the rest, but reduced the maximum to 512.
Therefore, the game will not remove the armor that the developers made from scratch. The re-textures were subject to removal. In general, normal paladins (npc) will look like vanilla G2.
New armor like Mickey's (standing near the gates to the city) was not subject to change. So don't worry if this pack will do anything bad to your armor.
I wrote a list from memory, I might have missed something. For those who are particularly picky about grammar and perfectionists, I will note that I did not try to write the exact name of the armor, the main thing is that the meaning is clear what it is about.
