Ancient technology (orig. Ancient technology) - side quest of the Dawnguard faction in the expansion The elder Scrolls V: Dawnguard.

Description

If Dovahkiin joined the Guard of Dawn, Sorin Zhurar will periodically send him to random Dwemer ruins or bandit hideouts. The objective of the quest is to find Dwemer weapon blueprints. The desired scheme is always in the "most important chest" of the location.

The quest is given six times. Each time the reward is a random enchanted item, as well as the ability to craft a new item:

  1. Improved Crossbow;
  2. Exploding steel fire bolt;
  3. Exploding frost steel bolt;
  4. Exploding steel bolt of electricity;
  5. Dwemer crossbow, Dwemer bolts (both normal and enchanted). In addition, Sorin starts selling such bolts.
  6. Improved Dwemer Crossbow.

In fact, this quest balances out the Volkihar clan's quests to obtain character-enhancing special items - “Rings of Blood Magic” and “Amulets of the Power of Night”.

Notes

  • You can only forge these items in the Guardian Fort, in Gunmar's forge.
  • Detailed characteristics of new products are collected in the article "Crossbows and bolts".
  • After completing each task, the object of the search appears on sale from Sorin Zhurar.

Bugs

  • Sometimes the quest marker is missing both on the compass and on the map, in which case check Solstheim.
  • If you help Sorin with all the technologies before Izran asks the protagonist about it, then the radiant quest "Help Sorin with her crossbow improvement project" in the miscellaneous section will be impossible to complete.
    • Decision: type in the console SetObjectiveCompleted DLC1Radiant 20 1.

Short walkthrough

  1. Find out where the Elder Scroll is
  2. Talk to Esbern or Angheir (optional)
  3. Find the Elder Scroll

Details

The action of this mission takes place in a huge Dwemer ruin called Alftand, which is the gateway to the huge underground cave of Black Reach. There are many side quests in this cave, which means the passage can become very long.

The Dwemer Observatory has a small puzzle that must be solved to get the Elder Scroll stored inside. Exit to the surface will not be difficult, and the place marker will always allow you to return to the Black Reach again.

Finding the Elder Scroll

After starting this quest, talk to Arngeir or Esbern about the possible location of the Elder Scroll. Both will send you to the same location: the College of Winterhold. If you have not entered it before, Faralda will ask you to show a spell of her choice. If you don't know him, then she can sell you the scroll at a discounted price. You can also tell her that you are a dragonborn, demonstrate Shout, and after that you can enter.

At the College, talk to the local librarian, Urag gro-Shub, who will give you 2 books on the Elder Scrolls: Impact of the Elder Scrolls and Reflections on the Elder Scrolls. After reading the second book, Urag will tell you that an author who knows a lot about the Scrolls left the College a few years ago. Travel north and you will find Septimius Segonius at his post. He will send you to the Dwemer ruins and give you two quests that will be the keys to the rest of the quest.

Note: This will also start the quest Beyond the Boundary, quest of the Daedric Lord Hermaeus Mora.

Alftand

This mission takes place in the large Dwemer ruins of Alftand, which contains the entry point to Black Reach, a huge cave beneath Skyrim. In the Black Boundary, you can get many additional tasks, which can stretch the time of the passage of this mission. Both Alftand and Black Reach are home to steam centurions and Falmer, which (without proper training) can make the quest very difficult to complete.

The easiest way to complete this lengthy quest is to thoroughly prepare for battles. First, you must go through Alftand itself. This is a large dungeon with a lot of battles, but it's clear where to go right away. Eventually you will reach a door, near which the Falmer will meet you (2-4). Kill them and go up the stairs - on the upper landing there will be a lever that controls the gate.

After the gate, you will encounter a Dwemer centurion, which can be a serious opponent at low / medium levels. An easy way to kill him is to catch him behind the gate and attack from a safe distance.

Climbing the stairs, you will find Sulla Trebatius and Umana hiding from the centurion. They are hostile to the player, but if you do not interrupt them, then an argument will begin, and then a battle. The player can kill the survivor, or sneak past unnoticed. Use the orb given by Septimius to open the stairs. The Black Reach is right below you. If you took the key from the centurion, then first you can take the elevator to the surface, sell the loot, and then continue to explore the Black Reach.

Black Limit

Don't look into the scroll ...

And now, finally, you are in the Black Reach, a huge cave, the path through which will take a long time. Your enemies are still Dwemer machines and Falmer. Follow the paved road and you will reach your final destination, Mzark Tower. Low-level players, in order to avoid unnecessary encounters, should go around buildings (you can try to swim on the river.)

Inside the Mzark tower, climb to the very top, into the hall with pedestals and buttons on them. The Dictionary Stand should be used first. Now you need to press the buttons to transfer the knowledge of the Scroll to the Dictionary and pick up the Scroll. Follow the scheme: press the third button (1, 2, 3, 4 from left to right), after a few seconds the second, wait a little more, and press the first. The mechanism will drop the Scroll towards you. Collect the Filled Dictionary and the Elder Scroll.

Take the Scroll to Paarthurnax in the Throat of the World to start the next quest.

Notes

  • Attempting to read the Scroll will temporarily blind the player.
  • The Clairvoyance spell can be of great help in navigating the Black Reach.
  • It is not necessary to enter the Black Reach through Alftand, it is also possible to go there from other Dwemer ruins, Raldbthar and Mzinchaleft, using the same sphere to open the gate mechanisms.
  • In fact, you don't have to start this quest to find the Scroll - you can find Septimius' hideout on your own. It is quite far from the coast, so you will have to swim among the ice floes.
  • The safest and quick way get to the tower - stick to the right wall of the cave if you enter the Reach via Alftand. You will only meet a couple of Falmer, and you will reach your goal in 5 minutes.

Bugs

  • This quest may conflict with the assignments of the College of Winterhold. Urag Gro-Shub may not have a dialogue option to continue the quest Ancient knowledge... Completing the assignments of the College should correct the error. Otherwise, PC users can manually change the Ancient Knowledge quest stage to 80 by entering setstage MQ205 80 in the console. Alternatively, you can go to Black Reach yourself, but in this case there will be no quest markers.
  • If you approach Sulla Trebatius and Umana secretly, but find yourself making noise and make them look for you, they will immediately pounce on each other.
  • If Urag gro-Shub refuses to talk to you, the book you need is on his table. Read it and then talk to Urag again and continue the quest.
  • Completing Hermaeus Mora's quest may conflict with this quest, since Septimius Segonius dies at a certain stage in the quest of the Daedric prince. Therefore, you will no longer be able to talk to him regarding the Scroll.

Notes

  • Any text within angle brackets (for example, ) is a parameter set by the Radiant Quest engine that will be assigned a value when a quest is received.
  • Not all of the specified entries may appear in the game log: which entries appear and which do not depend on how the task is completed.
  • The stages are not always listed in the order of the assignment. This happens, as a rule, in cases with tasks that have several possible outcomes or where certain tasks can be performed in an arbitrary order.
  • If an entry is marked as "Completing a job", it means that the job is excluded from the active list, but new records of the stages of this job can be added to the log.
  • When playing on a personal computer, you can use the console to progress through the mission by entering the command setstage MQ205 stage, where stage is the number of the stage you want to go to. However, it is not possible to proceed to unfulfilled (i.e., skipped) stages of the quest. However, using console command resetquest MQ205 you can reset the quest stage.
It is enough to approach any member of the Dawn Guard in order to receive the task. You come up and ask, "How can I help?" You are sent to a certain person, and he gives you a task.

Cleansing Light.

This quest is given by Ganmar. He will ask you to kill the inhabitant of the cave - the Vampire - the master of the night, and he will not mind if, also destroy everyone who wants to stop you. The vampire is in Heimar's cave, but the location is chosen randomly, so you may have another cave or fort. After arriving in the cave, kill vampires and their thralls. One vampire dared to shout to me: "Get tight!" What can I say?

She quickly lost her head, and will no longer be able to shout such words. As a reward for the task, we receive a circlet of great magic.

Ancient technology.

Sorin gives this quest. She is a master of Dwemer technology and will ask you to find a blueprint for an improved Dwemer crossbow. The blueprint for the improved Dwemer crossbow is in a place called Hanging Rock, but as I said earlier, the place can be any. We go into the fortress, pull the chain and go further. Surprisingly, the fortress was not occupied by vampires, but by warriors of the silver hand. My heroine immediately flew in and grabbed the first enemy that came across by the throat, he did not suffer for long, yes. Runs further into the fortress, killing enemies. At the end of the fortress there will be a chest, open it and take a drawing from there. Now you can return to Sorin. As a reward, Sorina will give us a hoop and teach us how to forge Dwemer crossbows. So it goes.

The task is given by Sorin. She will ask to bring another person to the guard of dawn - the former priest Florenty, but the problem is that she does not know where the priest is now, but knows Izran, but Sorin is afraid that the conversation may not take place, so she asks us to talk to Izran and find out the whereabouts of the former priest. It turns out that Florenty is now in the ranks of the Marines of Stendarr, and you know how Izran hates them, but he still agrees that we will need him. Florenty is now in Ranwald excavating. At the excavation, all the marines were drugged, I smell the vampire presence. We'll have to break through with a fight. The sentinels also brought Husks with them. I killed and cried. He cried and killed. After going through the excavations, I ended up in the Ranwald temple. Inside I found a vampire who subdued everyone, as well as Florenty Baznia. After talking with Florenty, I persuaded him to come to the fortress of Dawn. He also talks to himself.

Preventive strike.

The task is given by Ganmar. He asks to kill a vampire who settled in Orotheim, and surrounded himself with a gang of bandits. Need to hurry up, or what if his squad turns into vampires? The task is very easy: we go into the cave and cut everyone out, after that we report to Gunmar about the successfully completed mission. As a reward, we receive a bow of exhaustion. One more thing: the reward depends on the level, so you can get a Daedric bow instead of an elven one, or a longbow instead of an orc.

Lost relic. Rune Hammer and Rune Shield.

The task is given by Florenty Bazniy. He will ask you to find the Dawnguard Rune Hammer in a place called Fort Fellhammer. The task is easy. Come to the fortress and kill all enemies. After that, go inside and kill the leader of the bandits. The Dawnwatch Runic Hammer will be in the chest. Take it and return to Florenty Basnius. As a reward for this quest, we receive the Dawnguard Runic Hammer. Now it is yours, use it to your health.

Also, Florenty Bazniy issues a task to find the Runic Shield. He gives you the location, you come, clear the location, take the item and go back to Basnius.

Hide and seek.

The task is given by Ganmar. He will ask you to kill a vampire who is hiding among civilians. The vampire is in Ivarstead and has disguised himself as an advisor. Again, the location is chosen randomly and the position of the vampire in society is also random. And one more thing, you have to kill the vampire quietly, yes, quietly, you don't need to harm the reputation of the guardians of the dawn. Honest citizens do not know that you will kill a vampire.
Return to Gunmar after killing the vampire. As a reward, we get an orc mace.

The rescue.

The task is given by Florenty. He reports that our friend has been kidnapped by vampires. We're going to help out a friend. This can be any companion you have traveled with in Skyrim. In my case, Lydia, who is in the Torch Mine. Along with the release, we need to kill the main vampire. There will be bandits in the cave, we kill them and we pass to the cell of Lydia, we kill the jailer and take the keys. After that we kill the vampire and report to Florenty.
